Honest question: do we think the radius clause really gets applied/enforced to smaller, local bands like the Bollweevils? My thought is that they probably get a free pass since (a) they aren't big enough to noticeably impact RF's attendance one way or the other, (b) small venues (from what I can tell) seem to care less about exclusivity (presumably because there's just less money at stake), and (c) it'd be kind of a dick move to book a local band and then tell them "you can't play any shows within easy driving distance of your hometown for half of 2024 because we let you play a 30 minute set in the early afternoon"
Riot Fest won't enforce it for Red Scare acts. They have a good relationship and the Beat Kitchen is a small cap room.
Honestly, I wasn't even thinking of a radius clause thing so much as a "Why would they play their city two weeks in a row?" I think the relationship with Red Scare is strong enough that they really wouldn't care one way or another. EDIT: Exactly what Brad said. LOL
In 2010, Red Scare’s annual Oktoberfest show was even part of Riot Fest. And Brendan Kelly played that and then Lawrence Arms played the next night at the Congress. So can we please get a repeat of that this year?!
Just got a BandsInTown alert for an Offspring show in CT on Sunday, 9/22 after the radio show on 9/21. Think it's even more likely that they're out now.
to be fair they never said they were not doing an album. also if they did unique sets there's a high chance of them covering an album in full (or the bulk of which) over the two days. they covered most of their discography on their recent tour so nothing is out of reach. maybe not album sets but unique sets is still in play announcing unique sets would help shift more tickets for day two too.
Polaris / Blessthefall tour doesnt have a Chicago date and has an opening on September 20th between Pittsburgh and Indianapolis
They are not playing an album. Full stop. If WWWY had required them to do so, I doubt they would be playing.
The amount of posts I still see of people thinking that the 10 am announcement is something negative like Slayer dropping is dumbfounding. Why would they announce the time for such an announcement? And why would they do that announcement and then wait an hour to give good news of the lineup? They would absolutely want to move on immediately with the good news of the lineup. Why would they let people concentrate on complaining for an hour? It is like people don’t think about this at all before posting.
Yeah, I don't get this either... Riot Fest is pretty shit-posty at times but the one thing they always take pretty seriously is bigger name artist cancellations. They were pretty quick and up-front about the Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, My Chemical Romance, Faith No More/Mr. Bungle cancellations even when they didn't have a replacement lined up. And I think it was in 2022 where they came right out and said they were going to announce the full line-up but couldn't because somebody cancelled or they had a headliner drop-out or something (I forget). So even if Slayer were cancelled they would have probably said so already... Or at least not been so confident as to announce the line-up drop like 5-6 days in advance when they usually only give us one day's notice! And that's not even factoring in everything you've said in your post about the hour between announcements and the other factors (e.g., Slayer not cancelling other festivals; Slayer still being listed on the FAQ; Slayer still listing Riot on their web site; the old social media posts announcing them still being up). People are dumb. LOL
They replied to somebody speculating about the dual announcements involving Slayer with a GIF that said: "That's really nice... But it's wrong!" And for somebody else's post they said "It's actually just 3 full days of Slayer." Which, thinking about it? It is a little odd to not just not directly say "No, they're playing." But they're full-on snark mode these days so... That probably explains that. LOL
The web site also says "Lineup coming this week" so if they really wanted to go down the conspiracy rabbit hole they could say the line-up isn't actually coming on Tuesday. But they won't. Because they're all just cowards. Also? Happy Almost Riot Fest Lineup Eve!
A happy Riot Fest Lineup Eve to you and everyone else too! I can’t wait to look at whatever tease they put out and then wait for everyone else to figure out all of the clues.
It's here! I've got a work event tonight and I'm hoping to make it home right around 7pm CST / 8pm EST so I can partake in real-time. I'm actually really curious to see what they do, the format it takes, etc. I'm guessing it'll just be a "standard" teaser video that vaguely hints at 8-12 bands a number of whom we already pretty much knew. But I'm also kinda hoping it's something a little more extensive as they seem to be making an evening out of it?
