Was thinking the second announcement could be the full lineup, first announcement possibly another single band announcement? But I do think aftershows or album plays would make the most sense for the second announcement.
They usually wait on those until about a month out from the festival. And there's no real reason to announce them early because they generally do really well on short notice because people are in town and ready to party, anyway... If it's something fest-related other than strict band announcements, I could see them announcing album plays though! Or it could just be something very different and new (e.g., a new stage or type of performer; bands doing special cover sets). Or... A single artist announcement could make sense especially if they're on the bigger tip or its just somebody really special. Depending on who they have booked it could also make sense to announce the headliners and then the rest of the line-up an hour later. This is all giving me flashbacks to the year they announced like, 10-12 artists per hour for an entire night.
I think it will be lineup and then album plays Or maybe lineup and then punk in drublic stage announce?
I hadn't even thought of that. Is that big enough to justify its own announcement? I feel like it wouldn't be. Especially not without the craft beer festival element (and thinking about them trying to do something like that along with Riot Fest is giving me anxiety LOL). Hah.
could see NOFX and however they get to take over a portion of riot (a stage, a whole day, or whatever) getting its own announcement, especially if just an hour before the rest
Nice, I’m going to be in Hawaii next week celebrating my friends birthday so I’ll have to wake up at 4 AM to catch the lineup right as it drops haha.
I hadn’t thought about that being the first announcement. Guess that could be possible. But I think that would have a lot of the people online that don’t care about nofx really complaining.
Can’t wait to see what band the hints make us think is definitely playing but isn’t on the lineup when it is released.
Trying to think of what artist could possibly justify their own announcement an hour before the main lineup announcement. So far im coming up with Talking Heads- Not happening The Smiths- Not happening Fugazi- Not happening Op Ivy- Not happening Hole- has been projected so much it would feel anticlimactic at this point Sex Pistols- Riot Mike’s stated “white whale”. Doing that show without Johnny Rotten tho- so it feels like a weird time to do anything with him but also wouldn’t be as newsworthy without him No Doubt- I think we all agreed they’re not playing but idk at this point. Maybe something changed Metallica???— would be really weird having 2 metal headliners at riot fest. They’re just about the only active band that I think you’d want to give people an hour-early heads up about
Yeah I do think this could be announcing headliner(s) as hype prior to the full announcement, and then drop the full thing an hour later. Maybe with some teasers or dropping parts of the lineup in that hour? But also maybe I'm thinking too much into it haha.
Thinking about some of those over the years has been super interesting. Gang of Four being a very blatant hint but not on the line-up in 2017 or 2018 (forget the year). Good Charlotte being on that one version of the poster that leaked a day or two ahead of the 2014 line-up.
It’s My Chemical Romance but this time they are actually giving people an hour heads up that they are going to oversell the shit out of the festival that day and giving people the option to buy tickets with that information ahead of time. /s
I still think they could’ve safely accommodated that crowd if they had just KEPT THE FUCKING 2021 ROOTS/RIOT STAGE LAYOUT!! They had it perfected to where those two stage had twice as much crowd width, then said “nah” the year they actually had strong headliners.
I feel like Hole wouldn't be that big a deal to justify its own announcement. And even then I feel like 2025 is more likely because it's been silent since Courtney said that one thing. The Sex Pistols would make sense and based on the online reaction to the announcement of the UK show? People are actually kinda stoked. It's honestly not the biggest deal in the world but... If it's a big deal to Mike I could see him making it a big deal. I had assumed that show in the UK was just a one-off benefit which is the only reason I think them playing hadn't picked up as a strong theory yet. Things could have changed in the No Doubt camp but with everything Gwen's been doing solo I feel like that's still not fully on the table. This is one where I'd love to be wrong, though. ...What about Eminem? He's probably got some announcement coming soon after the show he's producing in Detroit tonight. In a sense, he feels too big, but I'd think he's about the same level as Foos. And given his album release plan it's not like there's a lot of other festivals he could do post-release. This one feels like a massive stretch but maybe? It would justify the waiting to release.
At 10am they will announce Brand New reunion and at 11am they will announce they cancel their performance because of backlash. Sorry. I'll see myself out.
Except for the first few years it was held the 2 main stages have always been next to each other. There was something going around that they where split in 2021 cuz slipknot needed extra room for all their stuff
Tell your cousin to give you the line up as birthday present, and then share it with us (jk, unless...)
i saw frank turners tour i feel like they were kicked around on this thread in the past but what about SOAD? theyre playing SF this summer so we know they'll be active-ish?
the offspring have a new album out in October. really hope they are on the lineup. they haven't played in like 10 years
They've got a radio festival in Philly/NJ on Saturday night. So if they play it would have to be on Friday or Sunday.
