Something I was thinking about: Who is the youngest band to headline Riot Fest? Was it FOB in 2013? They would have been in their late 20s/early 30s then. The pop festivals tend to have much younger headliners, which got me thinking about how the Riot Fest-adjacent scene hasn't incubated a headliner-level artist in a long time. Curious if that might change with someone like Knocked Loose as hardcore really explodes.
I was only looking at the actual top band on each day so I wasn't counting them. They'd be close though.
there been one person regularly commenting on different posts in both the FB group and reddit (i assume its the same person) who seems quite confident its FOB and beck, they never say how they know, but claim to be insider.
run the jewels probably comes in as the 'newest' band to headline, but they arent the younest since they both been around a long time, just not together
I do wonder… Slayer being a headliner. Is it really that big? Like, big enough to play unopposed? They headlined in 2019 as their last Chicago/Milwaukee performance and they had Bloc Party play at the same time. Do you think there will be someone decent doing the same this year?
From a quick look at the lineups, you're right. FOB is the youngest headliners that have played Riot, a second place would be Rise Against in 2012, which of course was before Riot aimed for bigger headliners. Even if bands like Turnstile or Knocked Loose headlined this year, they would be older than some FOB members in 2013 by a year or two.
It's always such a weird thing with posts like that one from Reddit. But I read that and thought: "Hah! Okay, then. Fall Out Boy it is." I think I trusted it because they were willing to name a source, albeit a very vague one. As for Beck... I dunno, man. That feels like a coin toss.
I know it appears like the headliners are FOB, Beck and Slayer. But I’m going to say one of those is wrong. Riot has never booked 3 repeat headliners for a lineup. One of the headliners has to be a first time headliner.
Who is a fresh headliner that is out there and available to be booked (with no current conflicts)? The only act I can think of is The Strokes.
I should add one more, albeit unlikely. Paramore is also free, but they have no dates scheduled after Taylor’s tour and have backed out of all their other commitments this year.
Paramore hasn’t headlined. A Reunion of some sort. Reddit threw out the idea of Eminem too. Gorillaz Justice/The Prodigy co-headline Jack White I’m sure there’s a few more.
LCD Soundsystem was just here for four nights at the Aragon. It’s outside the 90 days but I don’t know if they’ll come back because of those shows.
