If Green Day ends up out (very likely), legit stumped on any of the headliners - once you go Foo Fighters & MCR - you gotta go big again at least one night - and like the only 2 bands I can think of are Rage & System (Zack is doing better but Rage may go back on another 10 year hiatus) - but def not getting both.. honestly wouldn't be upset if one night they didn't really have an actual headliner and just loaded the whole day up like the Friday of 2016 with JEW, Specials, NOFX, Ween, Flaming Lips, Julian Marley, etc
Yeah with the headliners they’ve pulled the past few years, Riot’s really gonna have to ante up for lineups to come. But I’m sure they’ll make something good
Would you be good with System as one of the headliners - They are high on my bucket list since I didn't go in 2015, but I read it was kind of a mess - I think they are worth a redo LOL
They must be saving Skittles for next year. And I'm shocked Reese's Pieces isn't on here... I was assuming they'd be on the same stage as Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and PB Max.
A wild Courtney Love has appeared, teasing a new album hopefully out on Christmas: Depending on if this is a solo album or Hole album will determine the likelihood of a Riot appearance maybe being involved, IMHO.
I wish I knew whether it was mint or fruit Certs. The latter is sooooooo good. Also, King-Size Anything is a great name.
Surely beating a dead horse at this point but what's the over/under on them changing locations this year?
UPDATE Happy Halloween, here's the link RIOT ANYONE CAN ADD ANY ACTS THEY WANT FOR RIOT, NO LIMITS - if the artist has dates in the 90/90 radius, move to OUT-UNLIKELY - I think it's a fun social experiment to see how many acts we can get right when the actual lineup comes out -- PLEASE DON'T REPLY, if you are having issues getting it to open, try a different browser because I had multiple people test it out , no gmail account needed & completely anonymous -- HAVE FUN - share it if you want
Chicago date for Sessanta (APC/Primus/Pucifer) announced. All three are possibly out. Tool could still be in play though
2024 is the 20th anniversary of Hazen Street, they'd be absolutely perfect for Riot Fest in every way. Especially with hardcore having its moment, & so many bands that are insanely similar to them popping up the last few years (Koyo, One Step Closer, Anxious, No Pressure, etc)
I remember writing the "RIYL" for this record at my college radio station. And I went with H2O, P.O.D., and the Transplants. I was leaning into the rap-rock angle hard, in part because of the "times" and I wanted people to play it (and H2O had a better shot than if I said Madball LOL)... But there also weren't a ton of poppier hardcore bands with a tight groove and rhythmic vocals at the time (that I was aware of, anyway). So yeah. This would be sick! But really I just wanted to acknowledge your point about similar artists popping up.
I love that you remember that and that RIYL still stands up I think! I sold merch/took pics for Hit the Lights at their shows this year & they were blasting it before shows, I hadn't listened in a LONG time. It's really cool that there are active bands doing well that sound so similar, when I'd have to imagine there were hardcore purists making fun of them for leaning into a more melodic/poppy/rap vibe.
I remember far more of those RIYLs than I'd like to admit. You had to get creative, and stretch things a bit, if you actually wanted the DJs to try playing something new. It's still weird to me that at a college radio station so many people were averse to stuff they weren't already aware of. But... I digress... I hadn't even though of Hazen Street in the current context of "poppy" hardcore, or even the more rhythmic vocal delivery some of the newer bands associated with hardcore (e.g., MSPaint and Militarie Gun; and if anybody that has other bands that sound like either of those I'm all ears). But yeah, you're spot-on!
Interpol playing some shows for the anniversary of Antics and Turn on the Bright Lights in South America. This could be some cool albums plays for Riot, especially considering that for the 15th anniversary of Turn on the Bright Lights, they only did NY and LA in the US
