Oh I meant they would struggle to fill it without big bands like FOB and Weezer also playing alongside them, but maybe I am underestimating Smashing Pumpkins popularity?

I think Green Day is kind of an odd duck because they’re capable of doing stadiums on their own in specific markets, but couldn’t do then elsewhere. Or they need the big support like Hella Mega.

IIRC, Green Day was able to do the Rose Bowl on the Rev Rad tour by themselves. And they played the Oakland Coliseum (granted, that was a hometown show).

That being said, I’m not sure about Wrigley by themselves. But as we’ve learned from the past couple lineups, some headliners deemed “too big” have played now. So I think Green Day is in the cards still

EDIT: After a quick search, GD indeed played Wrigley that same tour on their own. But the point still stands. GD could headline Riot for sure

The Green Day show at Wrigley with Catfish and the Bottlemen was mostly sold out. I still have this crowd shot on my phone and pretty much that corner section was the only thing that wasn’t sold.

Green Day can for sure headline Wrigley with the Pumpkins or headline Riot.

They are for sure not "too big" for Riot Fest from a draw perspective. And the Riot headliner they have as an opener is arguably one of the smaller gets Riot has had recently but still...

My question was more about whether or not the Pumpkins might be "too big" to open a show at Wrigley (draw- or ego-wise; LOL). I'm just not sure what sort of "home town" effect they have in terms of draw. The vibe I'm getting from your response is "absolutely not." Haha. Because, yeah, I agree - it would make more sense on an admat.

I mean, they're definitely big enough and I think it's been proven that they aren't too big (certainly not at the moment).

I've been kinda tripping out on this all day, though, thinking about their draw because... Is there any other band who has sold as many records as they have, had as many hits and sustained "mainstream" awareness who doesn't regularly play arenas? (A big part of that may actually be that they haven't been codified as "important" or "serious" in the same way that, say, Springsteen or U2 or Pearl Jam have. But, I digress...)

i said this on the other thread to, but Im hoping its labeled as HellaMega 2 and this becomes green day's version of metallica's summer sanitarium. Huge band that can mostly do stadiums, but still bring out 2 other headline quality acts, (just a step or 2 down from them) and then a young up & comer.

00 line up was Metallica -> korn and kid rock ->powerman & system of a down
03 line up was metallica -> limp bizkit & linkin Park -> mudvayne & deftones

these 2 green day line ups feel straight out of that mold, just only 1 opener instead of 2, and i think its rad! i miss big time package tours! Hella Mega 3 in 2026 will be like green day, paramore, the offspring and amyl and the sniffers or something like that, haha

If anyone wants to shoot their shot, there’s an IG account leaking supposed Green Day dates if people DM them in response to a post in their stories asking where people might want to see them…

Greendayinc is the account and they gave me the Boston date. No way to know for sure but… Could be worth testing the waters?

I’m just nervous about pushing it by asking for a second. LOL

I just sent them a message, so we’ll see what they say.

    Fingers crossed.

If they say there is no Chicago date then they are legit. If they say they are playing wrigley, then the page is a scam. At least that is what I will tell myself until there is an official announcement!

It’s wrigley if I had to guess off the response I just got, it was two emojis a baby and a bear

That jives. I got a red stop sign with a pair of socks... And then a hint about the date which was a celebrity's birthday. Hah.

I’ll go to this tour if Smashing Pumpkins agree to play their 30-minute jam of Silverfuck for half their set

dang, I thought Green Day was close to a lock as a headliner next year - but IF they play Wrigley (the Cubs stuff could be trolling but I doubt it), even outside the 90 day radius - I doubt they play Riot because they couldn't even be announced as a headliner until after the Wrigley show - we'll know for sure in a week

Also, I think since Riot is pretty much close to 100% for Douglass Park again next year, they may do a presale before XMas - or even announce headliners - not holding my breathe on both LOL

How do we know it's close to 100%?

They have announced 2024 already and there's been no rumblings of any issues with Douglass Park unlike last year - so it's merely a safe assumption

was there even ANY hullabaloo post-fest about 'they ruined the park" or anything like that? i havent come across any yet this year. seems like riot succeeded in not giving the naysayers any ammo this year, which can only mean community relations are getting stronger.

also saw amyl last night and i know i talk about them more than any other band, but good lord would they crush. been a year since i saw them and even in that one year Amy's frontwoman prowess is still growing (she let go of some of her go-to moves that she used to fall back on multiple times a show) and added more to her arsenal of "being entertaining to watch"

Yeah, I don’t see them playing Wrigley and Riot in the same year.

And if this tour does go into September, then we can probably end our hopes for an Op Ivy reunion this year too.

...I hadn't even thought about the impact on a potential Operation Ivy reunion, hah. We can probably rule that out for sure now too.

Next year it marks the 20th anniversary of Rise Against's Siren Song of the Counter Culture. It would be dope if they do an album play at Riot

  23. I was hoping hard for that at 10 and 15 years. They just don't seem to have much interest in album play/nostalgia tours. Even the Metro was more career spanning than just playing a bunch of old stuff.

I was hoping for it to happen in 2019 too and was dissapointed it diddnt happen. But now I have high hopes again haha

Iron Maiden is out - Oct 24 at Rosemont, confirmed for Aftershock in 2024 which is like 3 weeks after Riot (so maybe we will get some of the headliners sooner than later)

also, I think it's worth reiterating because I know someone will mention them

PANTERA is also out, playing Soldier Field with Metallica in July
