Reddit posters acting as if the festival just started booking a week ago and it's not a year long process hahaha
The more I think about it I have a feeling one of the side stages will be a Punk in Drublic stage with Nofx closing each night with the rest being curated by them. Two days for sure but I’m thinking it will be a weekend affair with all the punk bands being dumped on that stage. There’s no way they’re only doing one day. Could also explain the lack of Fat Wreck adjacent punk last year. Need to fill those spots this year.
Not to mention we know for sure of several big bands that are more or less for sure playing. I’m at Microwave tonight and I feel like they are a very likely band. Don’t think they’ve played since 2019 if setlist.fm isn’t lying to me. And I know this won’t be popular but Heart Attack Man opened tonight and they also seem very likely to me. Point being there’s lots of bands available to play
Microwave was supposed to play last year on Sunday but because of the rain their set got canceled. I remember because while waiting for Thursday at the barricade this girl I was talking to was so excited about Microwave and her face turned to total sadness when I told her they canceled. It would be nice if they give a spot this year to most of the bands that have to cancel last year like them, Free Throw, Smoking Popes, Nothing
Ohh duh that’s right they did that free show with Free throw. Well it would be cool to bring them back then!
Yeah the Reddit posts especially this time of year are sooo bad. Also you can easily tell when someone making a mock doesn’t listen to an artist because they will way under bill them. Like I’ve seen quite a few mocks and suggestions that have St. Vincent way lower than she will be or just flat out over billing (NOFX/Sum 41 main stage headlining) or under billing (Beach Bunny, Andre 3000, Alvvays are three I’ve seen way lower on the lineup than they would be, for example)
There's precedence for this too! Senses Fail played two days in a row in 2019 for their album plays. And that same year, Against Me! got an extended set for their dual-album plays. So I could definitely see it. I'm also expecting these sets would be album plays. They haven't been doing that for the current run of U.S. shows but I could see that being part of what distinguishes Riot from the other shows people might have already gone too and help make it feel a bit more "special." Thinking on it, I really wouldn't be surprised if they didn't give that stage some midwestern flavor. Alkaline Trio, the Lawrence Arms, and Dillinger Four would all be really awesome gets in that regard. A lot of people just assume that "final tour" means its going to automatically give certain artists a popularity bump. And I'm sure it does but... Not that kind of bump. I could see NOFX headlining Radical/Rise (per usual) and Sum-41 doing the same (or maybe 2nd to last for their stage if they're on Riot/Roots). I think a lot of the underbilling you see with the more "indie-rock" bands is simply because people don't pay attention to other festival line-ups.
I will take a Rise Against- The Fat Years set thank you very much (and yes, I realize there is no way that will actually happen).
They haven’t done a set like that since 2009. They played both the unraveling and rpm in full. I think the closest we will ever get to them playing a lot of old stuff where the 3 metro shows last year. Those shows where epic once in a life time shows. I’m so grateful I was front row for all 3 edit. I just went through the set lists from the metro shows last year and they played 15 songs combined off of the unraveling, siren song and rpm
Was just about to come in and ask if he'd be viable headliner or not. Because it felt like he could have been. Bummer (but I guess not fully expected).
this week??? although, if we don't get any kind of clues today or tomorrow then next week???? Q101 is starting to give out tickets this week starting today.. but I don't know if that means anything
The Matches apparently have a tour being announced this week. They would be prime early afternoon Radical/Rise (or early evening Rebel) reunion material for Riot!
I went to the E. Von Dahl and A Band In Hope tours, but I'd love to see them again and get some more Decomposer songs.
I really hope that it is clear whether NoFX is only playing one day or if they will be playing multiple days. The possibility that they could play more than one day is probably part of why I am not at all concerned about who the headliners are.
Childish Gambino would have been a cool, kinda left field for the festival booking and I would have been all about it. Oh well. This festival has been severely lacking in hip hop though so it would be nice for them to bring hip hop back more into the mix.
If they don't outright announce it, I suspect the number of NOFX-adjacent artists on the poster will key us in. Album plays could be helpful for that too. But I've thought about it... And this is a rare case where a band I love getting added isn't necessarily a value-add for me. By the time Riot rolls around, I'll have seen three dates on this farewell tour. The last two of which will be my "local" show which is gonna feel pretty special for me given the line-up on that one, who I'll be there with, etc. Would be a good note to go out on. That said, if the line-up drops and it feels like I'll get the opportunity to see the Lawrence Arms, Direct Hit!, Dillinger Four, and whoever else isn't doing a bunch of those other dates? I'll do whatever I can to get there. LOL
I don't know that I'd say it's been "lacking" but... Having a main stage headliner would have been a fun, interesting change of pace.
this festival in san fran leaked, and is the week after riot. And the 2 points of information this give me are 1) justice was not coachella exclusive and 2) Justice will be in the states in septemeber. I dont totally know if they would be booked by riot, but boy would i love to see it.
Besides Run The Jewels, they havent had another hip hop headliner, right? Although with Lolla and Pitchfork booking hip hop and Summer Smash, I understand why they lean more toward acts like Wu Tang Clan, Cypress Hill and Death Grips.
