They were playing in July with OFF! I saw him at Riot during Jawbreaker's set in 2017.. he was a tiny fucker, dead at 61 of a heart attack I don't know if he had any other underlying heath issues, but sometimes you never know when the world punches your ticket out of this place.. RIP at least he lived long enough to have Wesley Willis write a song about him (on an album that he produced)
I have nothing to base this off of and I’m taking a wild guess, but I predict Unwound will be on the lineup
Lead singer of God's Hate wrestles on most Saturday nights and playing Metro at the end of May before the line up drops.. AEW works around his schedule for shows on some weeks but it's probably Twitching Tongues
I'm really hoping this is a year where the names at the top of the poster feel pretty typical/standard, good but not shocking or essential... But the line-up goes wildly deep. That was 2018 and 2019 for me, and man, those line-ups were amazing. I wasn't able to make it in 2019 but it was a very impressive bill top to bottom.
My final top 3 prediction is either Fall Out Boy/Hole/Slayer or Fall Out Boy/No Doubt (or Gwen solo but leaning more towards No Doubt)/Slayer
i like hole a lot and i know they havent really performed since 2011 but im just not sure they have the cache to headline a day. maybe if they had a semi-headliner as support (like bikini kill or jawbreaker or something?) it might work? semi related, melissa auf der maur played with the dresden dolls last year, though i dont know how involved she is with hole anymore.
Paramore still hasn’t played a proper Chicago show for This Is Why so I’m just gonna throw them up for the third headliner. They’re active-ish.
I think if it is Hole (even Slayer, maybe) they have to have someone decent size share that evening with them. Much like Postal Service/QOTSA/DCFC last year. I just feel like FOB (and No Doubt) would be the only ones on this list that could play unopposed.
Is there even a bit of info out there that Courtney has even rehearsed once for Hole or gotten in touch with past members to reunite.. is this really all coming from her blurting out Hole may come back at that Green Day concert? Riot made a tik tok video that basically joked about people waiting for the lineup.. so I think it's safe to say it'll be announced next week
Honestly, having Paramore as a headliner would be cool for a lot of reasons. But one of the big ones for me is that it's pretty rare for Riot to book a band who closes out a side stage... And then brings them back as a headliner. The only one I can think of is Weezer, and even that was as a replacement. Seeing that kind of growth in a band's popularity is really awesome. And them having Paramore this year when they're relatively inactive stateside would be a really great get for the festival. It would also align with Riot Fest's impressive ability to bring in headliners that like, 95% of people never would have even speculated on. Haha.
I don't think Riot books both Fall Out Boy & Paramore this year... and Paramore was supposed to play Lolla last year but something obviously changed last minute.. and so many people thought Riot somehow then picked them up.. my brain is gonna hurt if they don't release the lineup next week
Paramore closing with St. Vincent subbing on the main stage would be cool, and if that Hole thing did come to fruition would be a perfect Roots closer in between... maybe throw amyl on one of those stages and you got the making of an iconic female led day, especially since a complaint a few years here and there have been that female artists usually get thrown in the at bottom of the line up but if it were to be no doubt instead of paramore, id personally theme them with sublime and the marleys instead of above
