I was so hoping that they would play Riot after they got announced for WWWY. So hopefully next year. They are the only band on that lineup that I wanted to see but haven’t seen numerous times already.
It's honestly kinda rad that we'll get a thumbs up/down on Green Day sooner, rather than later, this time around. Could be our first big "maybe" headliner if the dates drop and there's no Chicago.
They just played lolla 2 years ago. So I feel like if there is no Chicago date, they would be a lock.
Instead of having fans come onstage to play knowledge, can they please have Tim and Matt come on stage?
Where did you see confirmation that this will be a cruise specifically? All I’ve heard is the “one weekend” part.
Judging by the early August Midwest gap Blink is on lolla. Guess we will find out about Green Day in the next few days.
Still standing by my prediction of Blink at Lolla and FOB at Riot. Kind of thinking Green Day does their own thing now at Wrigley.
This is way out from Riot but... Sublime with Rome performing 40 Oz. To Freedom would be a great album play for Riot. And the Roots, Wiz Khalifa, and/or the Pharcyde would be really fun hip-hop gets!
Shared this in the main tour thread, but it looks like Green Day’s tour will be announced November 2nd. So I guess that’s when we’ll know if they’re out or not
The Descendents/Circle Jerks spring co-headliner skips over Chicago. So maybe they'll be on it again? Could be something, could be nothing. Normally I wouldn't even let myself get curious about it because of how sporadically bands of their ilk tour but... Some of the skips feel far too obvious for them to not be active again later in the year. EDIT: And I'm convinced the reason for some of it is NOFX dates for at least one of the two bands.
I’d bet both or at least one of them are on the lineup. I’m still convinced NOFX is gonna do their final Chicago show there
I'm 50-50 on that. In a recent interview (TOAP), Mike talked about how they were enjoying having full control of the festival because it allowed them to do whatever they wanted and they get all the $$$ from the bar sales, no merch cuts, etc. Of course, it's Mike so... He may be embellishing. LOL. I could also see Riot Fest cutting them a really sweet deal to snag their final Chicago show and giving NOFX the opportunity to curate their stage (and potentially slotting some other bands on Rebel).
I had the same thought. I could see Riot letting them have their own stage like they did at Slam Dunk in the UK
Late on this one, but was inspired by a convo @sam_might_say and I are having in another thread about the Green Day tour. Supposedly those dates are running from late July to September. Could line-up with Riot nicely, TBH. Does the Pumpkins being the opener on this tour kinda mess things up for Chicago? By that I mean... Would Wrigley be big enough? In capacity terms, I'm sure it would be. But it feels like it would look and feel kinda odd on paper? I don't know much about the Pumkins draw in general, let alone in Chicago. I just don't know if there's some sort of "home field advantage" where it might make more sense to just skip the city on that run, have Green Day do Riot, and the Pumpkins come back for their own headliner later at another venue given its their home city? Legit not sure if any of this feels reasonable or if its just pure cope on my part. Haha.
I feel like the fact that Green Day had to have two other popular bands with them to play Wrigley last time around means they would probably struggle to fill Wrigley without a massive band supporting which I don’t think The Smashing Pumpkins are (they are big and would have the hometown bump but they aren’t massive like FOB/Weezer). So I think they could be possible.
I haven’t been following the details on the Green Day tour, but a July-September timeframe does line up nicely for Riot. I was thinking more in terms of how Green Day is positioning themselves. They’re saying they’re a stadium band and bringing a previous Riot headliner as an opener. Whether they’re right about their draw or not, Wrigley looks more at home on that admat than any fest besides Lolla. After MCR and Foo Fighters, it’s pretty clear that Green Day isn’t too big for Riot Fest, but it sort of feels like they think they are. I’d like to be wrong — they’re clearly one of the last obvious Riot bookings that hasn’t played and their sets are genuinely fun (hey-oh hey-oh aside).
My recollection was that Hella Mega at Wrigley was sold out. So not sure I'd say they "struggled to fill it." Hah. But this is why I asked. I really have no idea what feels reasonable in terms of venues for that Green Day/Pumpkins tour in most cities. Even in Boston I can think of one that would feel right for it, hah.
I am pretty sure SP is at least as big, if not bigger than Weezer, as they are coheadlining UK/Ireland next year
