this GWAR st. louis date just popped up, i dont see the rest of the tour yet, but looks like they are probably back on the menu
Extreme tour with Living Colour is hitting the Midwest around Riot time. I couldn’t see Extreme playing, but maybe LC is playing again?
Yeah, I wouldn’t say they are a lock. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they play. Edit: I lean towards them playing though. Riot Fest has some Chicago bands that are known but can be put lower on the lineup every year and allister has never played before. They also will fit in with the pop punk that seems like will be decently represented this year.
I’m also hoping for The Junior Varsity on that list of Chicago-esque bands that can be put lower on the lineup this year!
on the tour thread, someone linked to a teased a Converge / Deafhaven tour... that would certainly be a good grab for Riot
Doesn't one of the guys in Allister live in Japan? And they did the album tour not that long ago. Never say never, but I would be kind of surprised if they are playing.
Love that q101 is getting in on the sleuthing, tho a bit behind and I think they only went 3 for 4 cuz I’m not banking on interrupters returning so soon
I'm still perplexed as to why anybody is hung-up on the Interrupters playing. They played last year, the band has outright said the Chicago date on that leaked poster is just a Sum-41 festival date that they aren't on, and... That poster has a date that's blurred out in June (but none in September). Literally every sign lead to "not playing."
They should have just used the Sum-41 poster instead. It could still show a possibility of The Interrupters but at least have an actual lock to go along with it.
Superchunk is teasing a 30-year Foolish tour. I know the ‘chunk has played Riot a few times already, so maybe they’re due for a return and an album-play
I’m going to hope for a Rented World album play at Riot, although it seems like that is t going to happen.
Not to go on about the repeat acts thing, but I do have to respect when people give out of the box suggestions or deviate from the same usual suggestions as to who is playing. I saw this post on the subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/RiotFest/s/e6vwusrtTm) and every act in the top list has either played the festival recently or played enough times it doesn’t feel like an interesting booking anymore. Now, I’m not saying the festival should have no repeat acts, I mean Lolla has Tyler headlining (just three years after he last headlined) and has booked its fair share of repeats in close years (and Pitchfork too, booking Big Thief in 2021/2022, for example) What I am saying though is it’s a bit boring when you see someone make a list and it feels like the same acts that have regularly played before (and not that any of these acts are bad, but having freshness/variety not only in the lineup but in speculation season is fun) I mean I know Riot does like to repeat acts, but I feel like speculation is more fun when you aren’t just listing the same acts every year. Which is why it was cool seeing St. Vincent on a few people’s wishlists and then that dream becoming a reality (most likely)
I'm a big fan of folks coming up with ideas/wishlist artists that are a bit "out of the box" but still make a ton of sense within the Riot aesthetic. Two great examples of this for me would be CHVRCHES and Ke$ha. Two names that would make a ton of sense for Riot but aren't commonly referenced. But it's worth considering that a big part of it is just that there's a reason the people who book Riot are the people who have that job. Hah. I don't really expect SlayerBoi69 or BroDudeNFGGuy182 on Reddit to be into the idea of having a diversified line-up... But what's kinda cool is that Riot is able to think outside of the box for people and present ideas we might not come up with otherwise. Every year there's a few "holy shit; never thought of that but it's perfect" type artists. If you asked me in 2012 when I was attending my first Riot Fest if I ever thought the festival would ever book Ani DiFranco, Insane Clown Posse, and Foo Fighters I would have said "no." But my own thinking has evolved over the years with the festival as its grown and evolved. Kinda cool TBH. Haha.
I don’t understand why anybody would think she’d be a fit/make sense? Nothing about her sound, aesthetic, history, or anything at all would make her a decent fit for me.0
