not to mention he's chummy with gaslight and bleachers who could have put it a good word (i still doubt it, but its REAL fun to think about)
If Bruce is at Riot Fest (I know big if), I’ll probably be taking my parents to their first Riot Fest ever.
Same. I almost got my dad to go the year Elvis Costello played, but they'd for sure be in for this. Also, bring Costello back.
I can see Gaslight coming back, they seemed to really enjoy themselves last year. I’d hate it because I’d rather have a proper tour date but maybe we’ll get those from them soon. Hope we get a fall tour. I can definitely see Bruce playing, though. It’s a bit of a stretch, sure, but I don’t think he’d do well at Lolla anymore and there’s some definite crossover. Also a bit of a mea culpa after he got caught up in the whole Ticketmaster pricing discussion.
Feeling more and more likely we are getting Sublime and 311 to me. Could see that being good counter programming to Slayer.
Gimme Hives, Peaches, and 311. Haven't listened to Bruce much at all but would love the opportunity to see him at Riot.
I think the Hives and 311 are pretty likely at this point but we've had similar thoughts about similar artists with similar tour routings in the past so... Curious to see how that plays out. EDIT: Bruce would be really cool but also feels quite unlikely. Then again, people also said that about Foo Fighters. And they got both them and the Cure last year. Two arena acts. Might change things.
turns out the cure was just a test balloon for riot to see how long a headliner performance can go with Bruce on deck, hah
While we’re talking about outside-of-the-box, absurdly unlikely, massively popular headliners… I’m not seeing too many people predicting Post Malone to be at Lollapalooza this year, AND in 2022 he headlined Summer Smash in Douglass Park which is smaller than Riot Fest. also he famously played riot back in like 2015 before he was a huge star, so maybe there’s some kind of relationship still there. I’m not even a fan so I don’t care either way, but can you imagine the lineup coming out and his name being at the top?
Not sure what you had in mind as far as a "by stage" breakdown is concerned but Bruce Springsteen, Dropkick Murphys, Blondie, the English Beat, and Laura Jane Grace would be a phenomenal Riot Stage line-up. As a sidenote, your line-up on Friday almost feels too stacked. Haha.
put him on a day with lots of older punk/rock (blondie, elvis costello, patti smith, social D) and younger rock he would probably be into (dropkick, bleachers, gaslight, gogol)...it doesnt look that crazy
I could see Dropkick.. they'd recorded and performed together in the past Social D have West Coast dates during Riot
All I know is that he actively tried to get his "team" to get Militarie Gun to open for him (source: Ian Shelton on a podcast; I forget if it was 24 Hour Question People or One Life One Chance). He got push back so it didn't happen but... Gotta figure a person willing to try for that would be down for a Riot offer if the circumstances were right?
And he's actually shortened his set a bit recently and focused more on the hits. He played about 2:40 at Wrigley last year.
Not that it really matters but if Dropkick are playing it would be on either Friday or Saturday (they've got Inkarceration in Ohio on Sunday). EDIT: Nevermind. Had my dates fucked up.
Denzel needs to return for sure. His set in 2016 was awesome but he's gotten so much better since than MG I feel like we've discussed a few times but I'd be shocked if they weren't on Lolla based on everything they're currently doing
I could see them doing either. And doing the other festival the following year. But I'd imagine they'd hop on Lolla while the iron is hot (or at least try to). For a band like them, getting on the bigger festivals while they're still "hyped" is the way to go. Riot will be there in a year or two when the buzz wears off. Hah. EDIT: But obviously, I would personally prefer they do Riot. Haha.
Inkarceration is in July - there's a gap between July 21 and Sept 28 I looked on their website, it kind of does through you off
