FOB played House of Blues Chicago the same weekend as Riot in 2017, Riot could've easily booked them then and didn't - they may just stick with playing Wrigley again next year, I dunno - plus it's a year away, I wouldn't get my hopes up on anyone yet really
It’d be sick if Riot got Blur as a headliner. The last time they played the states, they only played LA and NY which was 2015. So it’ll be almost 9 years since they’ve been here, and even longer since they’ve played Chicago. Their new album (which rules) has done excellently also and has also renewed some interest in them. Riot would be a good fit
I wasn't offering FOB up as someone I am hoping for per se (although it wouldn't be opposed). I was more so saying an idea that makes sense at the moment.
Agreed. I could see them being a headliner next year for sure. It’s been a decade since they last played too
Agreed on it taking something special for me to go back again. I just wasn’t as into it with a single day this year and the lineup wasn’t that exciting overall IMO.
It would not be a headline level get, but I feel like next year Knocked Loose will be on there. Following the Turnstile path with the same management and being off cycle for the bigger festivals, it would make sense for them to grab some Riot Fest money.
biggest wants for 2024: Amyl & the sniffers, Better Lovers, Kittie, Garbage, Joan Jett, Deftones, Spiritbox, Gel, NOFX, and more than 2 ska bands.
Question to those who attend yearly, does Riot send an email out every year with a survey asking about bands you’d wanna see for next year? I know Warped used to do that. Or is that not a thing?
Is there a usual timeframe where the cheaper / secret pre sale goes on sale (pre lineup release)? Planning on going back next year, after missing like the last 5.
They did do a presale this past year, just not at the usual time in December. Instead, they did it a few days before the lineup dropped. Curious what the reasoning was behind that and I wonder if that's how they'll do it moving forward.
Oh right - I'm guessing the location situation was more up in the air after last year's fest and it would have been a pretty bad look to put tickets on sale in December.
I think it made sense for Warped because they had to keep up with the times. Riot Fest knows what their audience wants. The top 25 or so billed bands will always just be an assortment of acts that are popular among punk/rock/alternative listers 30 & up. there’s a large segment of us who would just suggest “Bad Religion, Wu Tang Clan, Alkaline Trio, The Flaming Lips, Descendents, Taking Back Sunday, The Get Up Kids, The Bronx, Streetlight Manifesto, Against Me!, etc.” every year & their talent bookers know it.
FOB definitely makes sense for next year, although I could see them doing Lolla too. Paramore makes sense to return as well. I think blink will definitely go Lolla Similar to Postal Service/Death Cab - Green Day doing American Idiot and then Op Ivy playing the other main stage and then Green Day coming back out to do Dookie would be awesome My top 5 undercard for next year is probably: Drug Church, Militarie Gun, Bouncing Souls, Flatliners, Suicide Machines
I'm already super stoked for 2024! Here's how I would book the festival (given 2023 sold well & adding 1 more stage). It may not appeal to the 2022 crowd, but this is more influenced by the 2023, 2014 & 2015 lineups. There's also some "huh?" bookings. Last mock till' March/April, I pinky promise.
Couple of huge (probably unrealistic) swings with op ivy, talking heads AND oingo boingo reunions, even just 1 of those would be a wild accomplishment, but I’m hear for the rest of this! Though a few bands like sum 41 and b52s have already announced retirement
I'm sincerely shocked Ke$ha doesn't come up more often as a potential artist. Also: I'm going to assume that if NOFX plays next year that they'll be the band billed just under the headliner and their entire stage is going to be whatever smattering of bands are doing the last run of dates with them in 2024. I'd bank on that day having at least 2-3 current Fat Wreck bands on the bill. ...But on the whole, I think that mock line-up has a lot of "this makes sense and it's about time" moments on it. Haha. And it's obvious that the person who made it took care to consider stage designations and combinations of bands, etc. The curation feels pretty spot-on.
If I recall... You're right about the B-52s. I think they're done. And I think that if Talking Heads or Oingo Boingo ever reunite it's not going to be at Riot Fest. Coachella would 100% get dibs on them first. Deeper pockets, more prestige, and a pre-existing relationship with each artist. But I think Sum-41 had plans to do a "farewell" tour next year. So that's definitely in the cards. And for Riot, if they could land the "last Chicago" show for both NOFX and Sum-41? That could be a really cool feather in their cap!
