I think I say this every year, but it’s still crazy to me that The Offspring haven’t played since 2014
Riot Fest 2014 it was the first time they did album plays. It would be cool if they have some of those original bands to do album plays again, as in Slayer playing Reign In Blood. Otherwise it is a dissapointing headliner/reunion for me.
I know people will say it’s too soon since they last played and I actually would agree since they’re a headlining act but I honestly don’t know what headline level “rock” (and all its subgenre) acts are available this year. Fall Out Boy is definitely a great guess and it’s been what? A decade since they last played? But aside from them the only other active band is Green Day and I don’t think it’s their year…although you never know. Aside from FOB and Green Day I feel like you either get into the too big territory with RHCP or Metallica, the not quite the right fit for Riot Fest territory with The Killers or Vampire Weekend (who would be out anyways this year, but using them as an example), or bands that would be headliners but are broken up territory. The Strokes are playing the UIC Pavilion in March but maybe they come back six months later? They’re the only other active rock band that would fit and hasn’t ever played the festival.
I forgot about Muse haha. I've only ever listened to some of their old stuff but they'd probably fit more at Riot Fest in 2024 than at like, Lollapalooza haha.
Fuck it.. here's my way too early mock - any changes suggestions would be fine - I've saved the list in note pad (made some changes, thanks real Mike) Maybe I'll do one more after the other festivals in Chicago announce their lineups
bonkers level good for my tastes. only initial notes is you have catbite on there twice (fri and sat) and i while i would welcome it, i dont see DEP and better lovers on the same day, maybe not even same weekend. (i would pick BL but i know more people would be hype for dep) edit i think the ergs are on twice also
Riot fest not considering Louisville part of the Midwest is very funny and on brand considering their email also says “stay tuned for our full lineup announcement this spring” (we all know it’ll be late May)
From LTL undercard I’m hoping for: - Local H - Militarie Gun - Narrow Head - Drug Church - Better Lovers - The Armed - The Chisel - touché
