not a ton of new info here, but everything got officially approved this week: https://blockclubchicago.org/2024/0...rk-district-approval-for-douglass-park-return
Following up on this: Unfortunately won't be able to attend this year and have two 3-day GA passes for sale if anyone is interested!
Ive noticed Block Club has been much kinder to riot fest this year. prior years they were putting out multiple hit pieces a summer. wonder what caused it - they realized 1 fest is fine, 3 was the problem? they dont actually care, just were hoping on the hate train of the moment? the temp move to bridgeview tamped down the noise and just hasnt come back?
One more week to go! I know we're not in the home stretch, but the weather seems to be on a more positive trajectory than it was a few weeks back, we've got restaurant reservations for Wednesday and Thursday, and my annual trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo is plotted. Kinda can't believe how quickly this one came up! I put together a tentative schedule for the weekend (circles = mostly full set; arrows indicate 1/2 set or less). I'm sure I'll wind up missing a few of these and catching a few others depending on the trek between stages at different points during the day. Also not sure what time we'll be leaving for that LJG/Catbite aftershow on Saturday...
sounds like a lot of fun! i think this will be my most stripped down trip to chicago - no aftershows, no pre partys, no michellen star restaurants or boat tours.... the most i might do is try to swing into the NOFX pop up thursday afternoon, and Aloha Wagon for dinner. boxed artist are full sets, and anyone else touched by the line is someone im hoping to see some of. conflicts that are still up for debate: the warning & poison the well vs the chisel The offspring vs public enemy the armed vs the hives mastodon vs the vandals editing to add a minor one: pixel grip & brutus vs heart attack man & lord of the lost
I keep hoping the Defiant have to bail for some reason and Direct Hit!, Allister, and/or Catbite gets slotted into that schedule slot. LOL
Cool Forbes article about riot fest and riot mike Riot Fest’s Mike Petryshyn On Community, Culture Ahead Of 2024 Fest One tidbit is he admits riot land won’t be to the scale it woulda been at stadium but beyond the wrestling, burlesque, hellzapoppin, etc.. that were briefly announced - it will also have the Riotfest historical preservation society which is in partnership with the punk rock rock museum, and also the tribute to Kevin smith is still a go, which includes them building a Quick Stop on site, haha
I really need someone to update the setlist for that LJG/Catbite set from this weekend so that I can decide how I am splitting that set with Something Corporate.
I was under the assumption they are playing Energy front to back and then if they have time a few bonus tracks from the EP's
I kept meaning to post about this here (and forgetting). Hah! But I watched the Supernova set livestream over the weekend... They did Energy front-to-back and then all of the bonus/EP tracks in about 55 minutes. They have 45 minutes at Riot so I'd imagine they'll be cutting a few of the bonus tracks. And FWIW? They fucking killed it.
RiotLand preview just got posted to Instagram and an email just went out with info on entry. It's finally starting to feel real! Hah. And according to the email there's "more Riot 2024 content coming tomorrow in the app!" EDIT: I'm also kinda pleasantly surprised to be wrong about the "RiotLand" concept. Pretty cool that they're actually creating store-fronts for some of it!
How is the Pink line going into the city after the fest ends? I will park my car close to the Bottom Lounge and then take the Pink line to the fest and after FOB are done I'm planning on taking it again so I can see Basement and then drive home from there? Any tips on how to avoid the rush besides going to the Kedzie stop? Would it be better to just park around the fest and pay 30 bucks at one of these makeshift parking lots? The Basement show starts at 11:00 so they will probably only be up at like midnight so that would give me 2 hours from when FOB ends to make it with all the rush if I take the train.
By the time that drops I'll be in Chicago tomorrow AM! Curious to see what else they have in-store. Probably not much... But still. What they've shown so far looks pretty fun.
i agree - i respect BC for what they're trying to do. not sure they're always successful but credit where credit is due.
Riot Land looks a lot like Riot Fest I'm not going to lie lol The only "new" things I really see are the wrestling ring, burlesque show, the publican restaurant, the historical society, and the convenience store. Which ok I guess that's a good amount. But it's cool if they've built like actual buildings and stuff instead of just tents for things like the arcade and the Church. If the ferris wheel is really the only ride then it basically seems to me like they used the budget for that to beef up some of the other stuff, which would be preferable to me. I do also think if all that extra stuff is organized in it's own area I may make more of a point to explore that.
Same, sometimes they hit the mark, sometimes they don't. Still important to have in Chicago but I hope no one looks to them as their singular news source.
