It's up on the Q101 site if anyone wants to listen for themselves but it was a lot of the same talking points about the process of them coming back, convo with the mayor, etc. The only "new" bits are that supposedly RiotLand was always meant to be part of the Douglass layout (which I don't fully believe) and a new map will be coming in a few weeks. They also confirmed that Radical/Rise will be side by side (no shit) and that only "one stage" is moving... Which makes me think the speculation about the 2016 layout is probably pretty spot-on. And if that's true and the NOFX stage is by the food? That works out great for me. Haha.
Foolishly, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and go with that they always wanted to do these RiotLand things at Douglass but it simply didn't have the space so they kept the same layout for years.
I got a promotional email from Riot Fest this morning, says that the aftershows will be announced in the upcoming week, so that's official, I guess.
more or less confirms soco, though we were 99% already. id love to see a sublime one, but thats the only "conflict" hope i have.
A one hour set for Sum 41's last time in Chicago sound underwhelming so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up doing one too.
Monday or Tuesday. Something corporate is announcing the final 3 shows of their tour and mentioned “late night shows.” So they will be one of them
What's everyone hoping for? Pavement at Metro, Something Corporate, Basement, The Hives, Drug Church, or Fiddlehead would all get me super excited.
I could see Sum-41, Basement, the Hives, Poison the Well, and Drug Church doing aftershows. But what I really want is ALL, the Lawrence Arms, Dillinger Four, and/or Catbite.
I don't think there's any likely aftershow from this lineup that would tempt me (it's just really hard to be out that late for me), but some unlikely ones might (FOB at Metro, Bright Eyes at Chop Shop, something like that).
I could totally see a LJG and Catbite one since they aren’t playing their own songs at the actual fest.
i like most when an after show feels like a couple bands on the line up got together on their own to do a fun show as opposed to just another stop on a tour. like id love it if SoCo plucked 2 randoms off the line up (saxsquatch & pixel grip or something, haha)
Really trying to manifest a more typical LJG/Catbite set for an aftershow! Haha. In the meantime, I'm really hoping Catbite busts out an OpIvy cover when I see them in ~1.5 weeks at Punk in Drublic so I can get a preview of that set! LOL Definitely second this! One of my favorite aftershows ever was Bad Religion with Mannequin Pussy and Bully. Not quite as random as what you're suggesting but definitely rad. I also enjoy when bands do aftershows with random artists that aren't on the festival proper (Rise Against with the Larry Arms and Touche Amore at Aragon in 2014; Sincere Engineer opening for the Souls in 2018).
