FYI: RF took their comment down… not sure if that hurts or helps… Edit: maybe they didn’t because it shows up when I look at the post but it’s not showing up when I pull up the comment thread… weird.
That and doing a photoshoot for an album play is just something that I doubt would be worth their effort? This feels like it's related to something else... Even with the Riot Fest comment. A music video, some sort of press feature for like AltPress where they have WWYF bands re-creating old press photos, or whatever. Maybe they'll be doing an album play by happenstance but I kinda doubt this specific photo has anything to do with that. And I know people have said they know for a fact that they aren't doing an album play at WWYF. So it would be weird that $$$ from LiveNation couldn't convince them to do it but Riot Fest somehow could? Then again, they're a band that does really weird shit sometimes. So who knows. LOL
They already recreated the image ten years ago for AltPress: #303 Fall Out Boy This is going to be nothing, not even an article. RiotFest are just trolling
I hadn’t seen their setlist from Download Festival until tonight. I would not complain about them doing that at Riot since it means I could just leave partway through their set and come back for the end without worrying that I am going to miss something I care about seeing. It would also make sense for WWWYF with them having a collage of all of their albums.
Bright Eyes is Saturday. Bright Eyes announce new LP ft. Cat Power, Matt Berninger, more & tour, share "Bells and Whistles"
I can’t believe that there are only three album plays. That has to be by far the fewest since they started hyping them in 2014.
Riot Fest 2024 Album Plays: The Offspring, Manchester Orchestra, and Mastodon Official link to article.
Honestly, they're so played out at this point that they don't bring anything special to the festival.
There's definitely scenarios where an album play could bring something for me but in most of those scenarios the band has no interest (Hitler Bad, Vandals Good would bring them from being a "meh" get to a must-see for me) or your average festival attendee would have no interest (any non-Oh! Calcutta! Larry Arms record). The bands who are most apt to do those album plays have already done them and in that context, yeah, they're played out. All that said I'm a little surprised that New Found Glory, NOFX, and Face to Face aren't doing albums for this. Especially since the odds are good NOFX will probably do "The Decline" during at least one of those sets. Not an album, but y'know, close enough...
Exactly. And there’s probably some calculation on it now where they can possibly make more doing it as a tour rather than a festival play (unless you’re getting paid WWWY money).
I feel like nofx will be doing album plays that will be announced closer I’ve seen half of my top 10 albums played live in full and hitler bad vandals good is on the ‘not seen’ side and that shit needs to change!
I would be really into that! I think one of the issues with Riot Fest and the album plays is the expectations they set early on with them having to bee "essential" albums. There's only so many of those going around and after a certain point it felt like they were stretching. And I definitely feel like there's a few that could have been shoe-ins (Pennywise doing Straight Ahead or Full Circle; Face to Face doing Big Choice or S/T; D4 doing Situationist Comedy; the aforementioned Vandals). But I'd imagine the broader interest probably isn't there versus what it would cost, bands just didn't want to be bothered, etc. There's others but I don't think they'd want to at this point (SoCo, Basement, and Poison the Well would be getting much bigger "pops" from their addition if they were doing albums I feel). For sure. For a while they seemed to have luck getting bands to do it who just wanted to do it as a one-off for fun or whatever... And I even wonder for some bands, like New Found Glory, if they actually demanded a higher fee for doing the album and that's why they're not doing it.
They've been so random with this tour that it's really hard to tell. The first run of dates was all album plays. But they haven't done any of that stateside in 2024. The set lists have all been still pretty unique, as promised, but I feel like the album play stretch may be done... But then again, with a three-day stint like this they may just randomly opt to do one. But with NOFX it doesn't really matter because they just play the songs on shuffle. It's never in order. Haha. So you wouldn't notice, anyway, unless Mike said it between songs. LOL
Speaking of album plays, Im surprised they havent managed to get Rise Against or Alkaline Trio to play one. Wishful thinking, but hopefully they can get Knuckle Puck to do Copacetic for its 10 years in 2025
And for Alkaline Trio, I mean, they did a 10-year tour for Goddammit way back when and those Past Live shows. I think they consider that done and dusted... So they probably don't want to do it and they don't need to do it in order to be a selling factor for the festival. Especially in Chicago and with the current album being very well received.
This just made me realize Neck Deep doing Life’s Not Out To Get You will also be 10 next year. A) holy shit, I’m old B) THAT’S the album play I hope we get
The full Wicker Park lineup is out (I know we were discussing it in here before and feel like this is an appropriate thread to discuss) There are some decent acts on here, Jamila Woods, Superdrag, Hello Mary, Citizen (have never really gotten into them but they're still a good grab), MSPaint, Greg Freeman but this is a pretty terrible lineup otherwise.
who ever has the running list of daily lineups - The Armed are confirmed for Saturday. they just announced this tour with shows on both the 20th & 22nd
