The Six Flags idea is by far my least favorite that's been floated. Coming from the west suburbs, Gurnee really is a hike, even more so than getting out to Shireland would be. I'll make one last pitch to move it to the park down the street from my house. It's good sized, lots of baseball fields to tear up, no substantial nearby parking lots, and the neighbors would hate it. Sounds great!
I still just keep thinking about the Q101 interview from last year where Mike said they'd been working on something unique and special for the last couple of years, said it was a long time coming, they were really excited about it, etc. I remember folks here at the time speculating that they bought land. Or a venue of sorts. And none of that ever materialized in a recognizable way. It doesn't seem like they're changing the name of the festival and there's no placeholder site that pops-up anywhere I can find for RiotLand (which is odd TBH; not even a redirect). I don't actually think it's a permanent venue space because I can't even think of where it would be. I just can't shake the thought. LOL
Have always thought the Comiskey parking lots made sense for this. The Sox are out of town that week and probably could just close off the lots Riot would use for clean up for the weekday games the week after. Would much rather see it there than Seat Geek or any suburban option.
are we getting to the point where riot fest as had more weird/contentious/attendees freaking out about something during the lead up than we have had smooth normal lead ups? lol the anxiety im seeing in this year rivals 2019 and 2021 so far. Maybe im easy to please or just am not the type to being pre-mad, but im holding all judgement for another 2-3 hours. i also have never been to any of the seatgeek/tinley/northerly island/other much derided burb locations so i dont have the built in disdain that locals do, haha
I know I will have a good time no matter where it is. I just don’t want to have to go all the way to gurnee from the south side.
in general are these actual venues bad experiences to see shows at, or is it mostly the time and traffic to and from/parking clusterfuck than the actual venue?
I'm with you. It's fun to entertain ideas but I'm withholding judgment on RF. I am, though, judging everyone's ideas.
They are home the Tuesday following riot fest. Also set up would likely have to start during the homestead the week before. The set up permits for Douglass where the 1-19th and clean up was for like the 4 days after so highly unlikely
Mostly getting there - the show experience will totally depend on how they set it up. Even in the suburbs, I hate driving to Tinley, and Northerly Island sucks to get to from anywhere, but both are fine enough places to see a show. I've never been to Seatgeek, but it would be the easiest drive for me and much harder for people coming from the city.
Seatgeek - awful to get to. I've never attended anything out there for that reason. Tinley Park - All around terrible shed. Middle of nowhere. Northerly Island - the least offensive of the group but it's also a bad spot.
Six Flags sounds horrible, but mostly because of Skate & Surf 2013 at Six Flags in NJ. What a bad time.
I def think that’s been because of the obvious contentious relationship between the parks department and riot fest. If you watched the board meetings last year it was very obvious the fest and the board and community were not fond of each other.
They were probably the tipping point but let's not act like Riot Fest was the best of neighbors for Douglass Park.
