It just seems like such a strange move to announce the destabilizing part tonight and make everyone wait for the resolution (aka what the fuck is RiotLand). I get separating from the lineup announcement, because I feel like that’d be too much at once. But it feels like they should have just announced the new venue details tonight and everything else tomorrow morning.
I didn’t but we acknowledged each other through the open patio doors. Wild to think I’ve known him for so long.
Douglass park finally gave them the boot aye I still can’t believe they got kicked out of Humboldt for not paying the restoration fees. those two years that were there were the biggest years and it’s been smaller ever since
I'm of two minds, because on the one hand? It's definitely a dick move to make people wait after dropping this bomb. On the other hand, it could be also a signal of confidence. And if they wanted to create chatter they've certainly achieved that. There's no scenario in which that 10am announcement doesn't have a crap-ton of eyeballs. EDIT: Or it's the third of option they chose the coward's way out and the new location is gonna be bad. But I'm trying to be optimistic here.
Yeah I was talking to my wife. Not sure what they really SHOULD do here. I mean, they could just drop the news randomly out of nowhere and people are still pissed (understandably!) or what they're doing now is trying to spin this into something positive and make it fun along with the lineup. Idk. Sucks all around for plans that now will need to change but the difference between 8pm tonight and tomorrow is so miniscule, and now people are talking.
They made the announcement tonight for this very reason. The fest is being talked about everywhere currently (Reddit/facebook/discord/forum sites)
I’ve heard people from that area talk about how this stadium bankrupted Bridgeview but don’t really know the specifics myself.
if I recall from the discourse I’ve seen online. It was similar to the soccer stadium they built outside of Philadelphia. They promised people all sorts of promises of the things they will build around it, the events, how much money it will bring to the community but at the end of the day it’s right outside Philly. Companies and events are going to take place in the city. So the stadium really just sits in Chester pa rotting except for Soccer games. Nothing built around it.
It's definitely gonna be a little fucked if its in a fully different area and they had all those suggested hotels on their site. Hopefully there's decent cancellation policies... But man, it's gonna be a bummer having a bunch of people trying to book for a new location all at once. Which is kinda the one that would really bum me out. If it winds up being in a location without decent hotel options within a reasonable range. Having to rent a car and/or Uber further than like, 20 minutes each day would be a nonstarter for me I think.
It’s a nonstarter for me if it’s an inconvenient spot in the suburbs and I fucking live here. I’m not driving an hour both ways for this.
Study: Chicago is most congested city in the country, 2nd in the world From the Kennedy Expressway to Lake Shore Drive: Why it's so hard to get around Chicago right now if this does indeed move to the suburbs out of towners are going to be in for a world of hurt with what we all go through now. Traffic is unbearable now and by far the worst I can remember in my three decades of living in and around the city
I dunno, I’ve driven in LA and ATL and it’s so much worse compared to this. It’s not ideal but it’s tolerable in comparison.
I'm having to drive 40 minutes both ways for the two days of Punk in Drublic here in August and already dreading it. Haha. So I get that fully. I love this festival. But part of what made it fun was basically just sort of embedding myself in the city for 5-6 days and 4-5 nights without having to worry about driving, parking, etc.
TBH, I think if it moves to the suburbs they're gonna see a decline in out-of-town attendees based on what I'm reading about hotels so... Really hope that's not the case.
Exactly. It’s why Lolla does so well. Same for P4K. You’re *in* the city and on top of that - it’s a world class city. Few compare. Moving outside of it kills all of that.
