me too, my first one was 2016 and went every year since then and every year it feels like there's more animosity from the surrounding area... It always feels like it's just a matter of time until they are done there.
I guess I can’t understand the flippant way they would be announcing that after all they’ve gone through with the park district. I feel like it could all be nothing but like, why? My only thought is if they announced this with the lineup tomorrow, it might overshadow the whole thing. Get the bad news out of the way now, let people grumble overnight then hit them with the lineup tomorrow? I might have rose tinted glasses though.
Between the dig at the Parks District and the “now with parking”, the only way this happens in Chicago city limits is at Soldier Field, right? Is there an option beside that or a move outside the city? Is RF potentially about to become a camping fest in the burbs? Alternatively, RF buying an abandoned theme park would have been unthinkable to me an hour ago but seems plausible now. Am I losing my grip on reality? This announcement has me shook.
My understanding is most do get sold to a developer once tenants are out. My thinking is a farm somewhere or an old theme park. There was the golf course between Woodstock and Harvard that the guy who owned Congress wanted to buy and put on shows at. No idea where that stands.
Soldier Field is also owned by the Parks District. I hope they don't move to a camping situation, although I'd still just drive there every day.
Both tinley and northerly island are open riot fest weekend. Don’t know how many people beyond wonderland brought in last weekend but they had at least 3 stages at northerly island
Also, 2-Day passes go on-sale tomorrow too, so that implies we're getting day-by-day lineups tomorrow.
That makes sense. So I guess the only option to keep it in the city is would be a return to a multi-venue, indoor festival. Somehow the theme park/shopping mall/farm ideas seem more plausible than that.
Given the uncertainty introduced by the venue announcement, I kinda feel like they need to overdeliver tomorrow rather than hold back details they already have (like day-by-day lineups or album plays).
The “choose your own adventure” bit of the announcement kind of implies a multi-venue thing but I really don’t think that would be on the table with the headliners they usually get. Even if Slayer were the biggest… That’s pretty big.
Line up needs to go hard and be the best one they ever had. I can understand people not being happy about the uncertainty of the venue after months of selling tickets with Douglass name on it. I know its not their fault, but there should be a better way to handle this.
that idea sounds fun on the surface til you paid for a ticket and get shut out of seeing a bunch of bands because the venues hit capacity.
With them doing 2 and 3 day tickets the multi venue wouldn’t make sense. When it was spread out throughout the city you had to buy tickets to each show separately
My question would be, what about those of us that paid for the VIP and amounts we paid? If they go back to separate venues then I don’t feel like that would be worth the money I paid.
