i would love to see joan jett headline a show somewhere, but doesnt seem like she has interest in that any more, is almost always just opening for someone, maybe decided thats a easy, comfortable late stage career path - perpetual amphitheater and arena opening act
Their social media person is a big CRJ fan (and last I heard, has nothing to do with booking artists)
I’m assuming everyone here has seen WWWY’s lineup by now. Any guesses who will do Riot? And maybe the same album play?
I feel like a lot of these album plays have already gone down at the festival itself in recent years, aren't big enough for Riot to consider, or the city of Chicago already got it via a proper tour. That said, I could definitely see some of these at Riot: The Distillers, Underoath, Basement, Dashboard Confessional, and Atreyu. These are the ones that feel the most like there's probably tours routed around the festival to me. The Starting Line and Jimmy Eat world would arguably be in the mix too except it would feel kinda off-brand for those artists to an album play tour off the anniversary year... I'm also curious to know how many of these might be "the only time we play the album in 2024." I'd imagine that might be a factor for some of the bigger gets (e.g., MCR) and the ones I listed feel like they'd be just under the cusp of the festival wanting it to be exclusive (but also a big enough deal that some fans would rush).
I think Underoath can happen since it sounds like they’ll be doing Safety at Furnace Fest next year. I could see them doing it at select festivals only. Also, regardless of whether or not they do an album-play, I’m betting on Pretty Girls Make Graves playing
Yeah, the Furnace Fest rumblings are why I think Underoath may be in the mix. I'm saying Dashboard too because that album play is almost definitely a tour because otherwise... It'd just be a really strange pick for the festival. Like, there's no way that one was their first choice. Haha. And I didn't even think of PGMG! But yeah... That would be a very "early day" Riot pick. Good call! I could also see them doing Fest as well.
Cartel and Armor For Sleep are the album plays I'd want to see. Plenty of others I hope play Riot but don't do the same album play (TWY, Jimmy Eat World, MCS, the Forecast).
For once OSEES are coming to Thalia Hall but not during Riot Fest weekend, if anyone has been wanting to see them (I see people complaining about this in the subreddit yearly haha)
RX Bandits probably out as well. Their Resignation tour is coming to the Bottom Lounge on March 14th. Yes, that's outside of any radius clause they might have but... Given that the Bandits aren't a full-time touring band and they'd likely want them to do the album at the festival? Safe to assume they're out.
I picked up on that as well, hah. Sadly these are probably the spots where they have the best/most consistent draw. The last time I saw them in Boston it was in a 500-capacity room that was maybe like, 75% full... And a not-insignificant number of people left after the opener (I Am the Avalanche). TBH, if they could only pull a Mustard Plug and get on the "ska day" at Fest one year and bump elbows with some of the younger ska bands... I think it could do them really well. I literally have no idea what the implication of March 11th is.
I don't think they mention No Doubt, but they toured or at least did a few arena shows with them in like 96 or so
Okay… I’m having an insane Mandela moment. I just looked at the lyrics and it’s Black Eyed Peas that are mentioned. I swear they mentioned No Doubt in that song…
