The Wonder Years are teasing something next week. If they're playing (particularly if they're doing a TGG tour) could signal the line up being announced then too. I know they played last year but a TGG play would be a real draw, esp if it's a small run of a few major markets.
Supernova Ska shared this implying (bitterly?) that it was Riot Fest. I just verified it on the site. Name is still there… Not a guarantee for this year necessarily but… Take this as you will.
https://blockclubchicago.org/2023/0...ut-ald-scott-has-given-the-event-her-support/ No real green light yet, but the Alderman is supportive, which helps if they want to keep it in DP.
Why you got to give me hope! And I just checked and it looks like it wasn’t on there as of at least February. So it is definitely a recent addition to the list. Every year I tell myself I won’t start thinking they may play, and yet here I am again. There was someone on Reddit saying that Rancid was playing in Quebec during Riot Fest weekend, so that gave me some pause, but now that I’m looking I don’t see where they got that from. There were so many people complaining and moaning about it that I assumed it was true and thought it was weird it hadn’t been mentioned on here. Now I know why. Edit: It looks like some festival (envol et macadam) announced them but Rancid hasn’t mentioned it yet. So I guess I’m back to thinking it probably won’t be this year.
I’m a firm believer that our headliners are Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and The Postal Service (performing Give Up). Just my thiugh
I’m thinking Riot is in talks to get them next year. Rancid also has those Boston shows around Riot too. So maybe the wheels are turning, but it’s not happening this year
Thats what I thought. It would be odd having Op Ivy play again and then 2 days after have Rancid play some shows instead of letting them enjoy the moment. But I would be stoked if they are the 3rd headliner!
Fair points! Music 4 Cancer is happening Friday and Saturday of that weekend so… Unlikely. I didn’t know that when I shared. But I definitely agree it means something is happening. Maybe not this year but… Next year? Who knows… But this is the closest thing to proof we’ve had that the wheels are turning. Also? On vacation in San Diego so day-drinking and a little jet-lagged right now. Apologies for any typos.
Let’s pretend for a moment riot did pull an op ivy reunion this year, what a massive dick move by supernova to spoil it like that in such weird petty way, lol. If they didn’t get them (most likely) then it’s just a silly post, but if somehow they did, goodness if I was in the riot offices I’d be livid
Just hypothetically because I feel like Op Ivy won’t be there this year because of the Saturday Rancid show: If Foo Fighters and Op Ivy were two of the headliners, Queens of the Stone Age just feels too much of a drop off for the third headliner to me. So what if Foo and Queens are just the top two for one night and that is what the auction meant when they said they are the headliners. If all of this was true, then I would be all in on Green Day. I assume they would want to be there anyway for the Op Ivy reunion, so why not play and get paid to be there. Edit: And I have already seen someone on Reddit say that Operation Ivy wouldn’t headline if they were playing. It is like they learn nothing.
What Saturday Rancid show? Their site has nothing between June 24 - Sept 18 first wave lineup drops have usually been Wednesdays right? The first rule of Reddit.. is don't go to Reddit
A festival in Quebec announced they were playing last week, but Rancid hasn’t mentioned anything about it yet.
It is the first time I heard about this festival but it seems last year it was the same weekend as Riot, and even tho they book punk bands there was no overlap between the 2 festivals
They've had overlap with Riot in past years, it may have been different weekends Quebec City to Chicago is a doable flight in a day, much closer than Los Angeles but I guess Op Ivy is playing Friday or Sunday then .. sweet (as in Sweet Children, who should open for Op Ivy) Foo has Sea Hear Now on Sunday, so they are only avail Friday or Saturday
Friday: Foo Fighters with a Dave Grohl curated main stage Saturday: Green Day with a 90’s lookout records main stage Sunday: Operation Ivy with a ska stage (which serves as a middle finger to Supernova for ruining the surprise) sponsored by chorus.fm
I'd put Green Day & Op Ivy the same day.. Op Ivy will draw but can they really play more than an hour?
I hadn’t looked at the Twitter replies until right now. The responded to someone yesterday asking about tickets going on sale with “Check back tomorrow maybe.” So I’m going to guess pre-lineup tickets and tease of the lineup today with lineup and normal on sale tomorrow. Edit: They just updated their social media pictures. And it says Douglass Park. So things are definitely happening.
