He announced an expanded version of "Call me..." this week with a new song, so he's probably got something up his sleeve. Would love to see him at RF.
Ah ok I was honestly thinking it's kind of weird he hasn't. Book him and Peggy to do a set for their new album! Ya he makes sense to me, and I wouldn't say it's impossible. It's more that he would be like the biggest name of the weekend, whereas RTJ are typically the light headliner. Would they want to dedicate that much $$$ to a rapper is the question I guess. Ya this is pretty much when I had in mind. He was getting pretty big and would've been able to headliner Riot, but not quite up to Lolla headliner like he is now.
Riot really needs to start booking bands like Fontaines, Idles, Amyl and the Sniffers, Black Midi. Crossing my fingers for Chubby and the Gang
Or doing 90's covers for all of the bands that were mentioned in this thread and won't be on the bill (Eve 6, Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms etc)
I legit would not rule out Eve 6.. they did tour with We are the Union last year and all that Riot banter HAS to lead to something maybe possibly the rest, yes although saw Gin Blossoms for free last year at a casino here and I got all the hits so can't complain
What's funny is that the joke Riot Fest booking is actually a Bamboozle booking. Steve Aoki isn't doing a set-set there. He's just doing his own version of Emo Night. LOL
this is the thing I think we often forget. Summer Smash was in the same location, with a smaller crowd, less history, and fewer (if any) promoted shows throughout the year adding revenue— and they STILL pulled a Lolla sized headliner last year. I don’t think the issue is that Douglas Park isn’t big enough or that riot fest doesn’t have enough money to book X artist. If they wanted to have it in Douglas Park and have Rage Against The Machine, Post Malone, and Green Day headline, I’m convinced they could do it. It might cost them a side stage or two. They’d probably have to increase the ticket prices. But they could do it and the show would happen. I think the reason they haven’t gone that route yet is because they like their current setup and price point and they like having lots of great small and medium sized acts.
I don't know if this B-side release makes it more or less likely he releases something this year. Granted, he rarely telegraphs his next release so it could come out of nowhere. However, Tyler draws and I don't see Riot Fest being able to handle the size of the crowd with his popularity now. This is wild to see.
At this point in their respective careers, and knowing the sets they typically play live (or at least at festivals), which of these two acts would you rather headline Riot: Foo Fighters or Green Day? (This is just a fun question I obviously know nothing)
After seeing them both at Lolla recently, I would say Green Day. I had more fun during their set than with FF. At with a crowd like Riot's, Green Day would be really great!
I think either would be great, but Green Day definitely has more of a Riot vibe to me. Obviously because of their punk roots and whatnot… But yeah Not to mention they put on a darn good show
Green Day seems to be in a really good spot right now. Everyone is healthy and clean, they’re seemingly having so much fun together for what seems like the first time in a long time. I’ve never been a big fan but I’d stay to see them over Foo Fighters.
Green Day. And it's not even close. Foo Fighters are a great live band too... But I don't connect to them the way I still connect with the songs Green Day would likely play. And I'll take a 12-minute extended version of "King For A Day" with covers interspersed over a 7-minute version of "Monkey Wrench" with a phony "jam" that's not at all improvved but they pretend is improvved. Only scenario where I might be swayed is if Foo Fighters did a "first three albums" set or something along those lines.
not sure if mentioned way back, but Lucero is starting their spring tour and it has no chicago date, so if they do a fall run, riot can be in play
They strike me as a Wicker Park Fest headliner, but I’d be very happy to see them on Riot. New album is great.
I apparently even saw them at one of those (2019) according my shows spreadsheet, but I don't remember it at all.
Well, for shits and giggles, I asked ChatGTP to curate this year’s Riot Fest lineup and this is what it came up with (and it’s pretty ambitious): Sure, here's a possible lineup for Riot Fest 2023: Friday: Green Day My Chemical Romance Run the Jewels AFI Against Me! Alexisonfire The Menzingers Hot Water Music Joyce Manor Saturday: Rage Against the Machine Nine Inch Nails The Offspring Descendents NOFX Bad Religion Circle Jerks Flogging Molly Less Than Jake The Interrupters Sunday: Foo Fighters Tool Weezer The Smashing Pumpkins Alkaline Trio Taking Back Sunday The Used Coheed and Cambria Thursday The Lawrence Arms
Interesting to see how it "clustered" some of those. Like, Green Day has toured with MCR, AFI, and Against Me! while the Menzingers, Hot Water, and Joyce Manor are all pretty linked "scene-wise." Saturday just has a bunch of punk bands with RTM/NIN headlining. And Sunday has the alt-rock starter kit and a bunch of 2000s emo/Warped Tour bands. 100% would attend!
They chose a lot of bands that have played before or would fit Riot’s vibe. A lot of the ones that haven’t played are ones were speculating too. Ha!
Gonna have to add Ill Communication to my list of "hardcore bands that would be sick at Riot Fest" list.
