I do! I was disappointed to see that Tool is playing a September festival. Edit: But I often don’t watch the main headliners anyway.
id be fine with this as long as the next few lines are loaded. Tool would probably be my only must see of the 3, but i would have fun at the other two (and would be checking all 3 off the bucketlist), while also be willing skip strokes and paramore depending on their timeslot competition
Yeah, I've gotten to the age where I'm happier if I don't love more than 1 headliner. Ya boy here looooooves leaving early.
haha i get that sentiment, and need for rest and healing, but im sort of the opposite. i spend so much time throughout the year thinking about riot that i make sure to spend all 30 hours possible in the park, soak it all in open to close. only 2 times i left early was the morrisey Thursdays pre-party cuz F that guy, and the very first misifts reunion because my ex who i was with wanted to leave, haha
The Strokes, Tool, and Paramore would honestly be a good set of headliners for me. Three artists that I enjoy and wouldn't mind seeing but are far from critical for me. So if I get to see them great? If there's a conflict or I want to leave early for an aftershow? That's fine too. It would also leave ample budget for a strong set of sub-headliners, the undercard, etc.
Pixies and Modest Mouse are out. Playing Chicago in August Also Avenged Sevenfold playing Tinley Park in July
Big stretch calling them a lock based on that routing. It skips a lot of cities and ends ~1.5 months before Riot even starts. Definitely in play still, and would be a great get for Riot, but I wouldn't really call it a lock yet.
They aren't going to go on their first headliner ever and skip Chicago, one of the top markets, especially when they are hitting other midwest spots like Cudahy, Lakewood, Pontiac, etc. which are obviously not as big markets and likely less money makers. I personally just don’t see it. Unless they are booked for one of the street festivals here (but the dates don't really match up) I'd say it's likely Riot.
the Strokes are probably out for this year (Albert Hammond Jr has at least one festival date that weekend.. it's the Saturday at Cave Mountain), Tool does have the one September date this year but the last Tool or Maynard fronted show was in September was in 2007.. it may be a one off date), and Paramore is far from a given YET until they announce more dates Death Grips, Death Cab, Postal Service, Gwar are the only bands I'd remotely consider locks or close to locks so far (I may be missing one other)
We're probably just defining the word "lock" differently, TBH. When I see "lock" in this context, it means it's a sure thing. Close to 100%. I'd agree that it's "possible," and maybe even "likely" that they'll play Riot Fest as part of a run where they hit up other cities they skip on this headlining run (e.g., NYC, Boston). But I wouldn't call it a "lock." It's all semantics, really... But that routing is super aggressive with some intense drives. It's plausible they just couldn't get the right venue on the right day to make Chicago happen. Or they're playing Riot Fest or some other Chicago thing later this year. It's truly a coin toss for me, at this point.
Elvis Costello & Nick Lowe/Los Straitjackets are out, June 26 in Hammond AND Elvis Costello will be in Europe the weekend of Riot Fest
Is The Beths a fit for Riot? I saw the dates posted on the Tour thread, they dont have a Chicago show and they are open all September
I think they'd be a good fit. I was curious about that gap too — if they're staying in the states to record an album or something, a one-off festival date in September could be possible.
They played Chicago in Feb, plus the September gap of nothing until the 30th.. I'm thinking they will be back in NZ
