Would be so sick if GVF played for the guarantee of being able to leave early. I like having a night or two where I don’t need to see the headliner.
Probably playing Lolla.. they are playing several other C3 festivals this year Does that count as good news or did I already break my own rule?
I'm definitely not suggesting they would be playing 3k capacity venues everywhere, or even 1k capacity places for that matter. But if they planned it out right and did short regional legs? They could be in the 500-1k space in most areas pretty easily. Especially with decent support. You also have to factor in the popularity of hardcore in general, and Bane being a fairly "legendary" band. At this point, there's a whole new generation of younger kids who never had a chance to see them and will want to tick that box. There's now two generations of fans. So it's just naturally going to increase in size because they're still prescient in the conversation about hardcore. Like you're saying, it won't sustain fully but... If they keep the touring relatively limited, get the right support, and so on I'm sure they could sustain at a pretty decent level if they wanted to. See also: Jawbreaker, Descendents, Hot Water Music, Avail, etc. There's so many examples of bands from the punk world coming back with more popularity than they were before... And yeah, that first "pop" is going to be bigger than whatever follows, if they do it right it'll maintain at a sustainable level.
I'm not the best with words, I didn't realize this was 1. my favorite sentence and 2. my vision of afterlife if it exists. So thank you for putting this idea into my head
Thoughts on Skinny Puppy? The current run of their "farewell tour" hits most major markets but skips Chicago and most of the west coast. The press release implies there's going to be a west coast run... The current tour dates run from April through early May. If they're waiting to announce west coast, I'd imagine those dates have to be at least 1-3 months out from the presently announced run which would mean it's probably a run that would take place in late summer. I could see them doing something that was primarily west coast with a festival date or two tacked on toward the end. Would be a decent top half of the poster get for Riot!
possible and would definitely be rad but i saw speculation they are probably headliner for Cold Waves which usually happens a week or so after riot.
Do we think they will stack the Death Cab/Postal Service day with more emo/indie leaning acts? If neither are a headliner I could see them leading into like Pavement or something. (Or if they are headliners then Pavement leads into them?)
I fthink Postal Service will be a headliner. I feel there is more hype for their reunion than Pavement's
That Postal Service/Death Cab your has been selling out like crazy. I feel like it’s big enough for headliner status.
I'd put it more at direct support level. Headliners are generally either a crazy rare get or an artist that can comfortably play an amphitheater. The co-headlining combination of both DCFC and the Postal Service is the driver. And I almost feel like having them play a festival makes it less special. I just don't imagine a sea of 20k+ people sticking around at the end of the night for either band. But then again... I also almost wonder if this is a move by Death Cab to try and push themselves up a venue size and where they get slotted at festivals. So I may have just talked myself into it. LOL
The Postal Service closed the second main stage at Lolla 10 years ago. I feel there's a bigger buzz this time around and they are playing in less cities than in 2013. I think they can have a similar crowd as Beck and definetly bigger than Bikini Kill
My entire thought was the idea that they are bigger than Bikini Kill. But, then again, I feel like BK is more of a Riot Fest type of band. Just fits the festival better so it could go anywhere but I still think they could headline.
Bikini Kill in 2019 from a business sense was… not a good booking. There was easily more people watching TBS play their two best albums during that closing time slot. They worked because the rest of the lineup that year was phenomenal, and from a street cred perspective it made sense to book them at least once. But if I were riot fest, I would never want a headliner that you have to justify by saying “well they’re bigger than Bikini Kill”
Pile announced new tour dates and they are in Detroit 9/13 and Minneapolis 9/17 with no Chicago date and saying more dates are coming. New album out next week. Seems like a lock.
this is why i love riot, i have never heard of this band, and then looked at their 'people also like' and have only even heard of 3 out of 20 of those, but listened and now cant wait. ALSO while looking at their IG comments, someone asked about chicago and they had an interesting reply.. possible march 5th line up release? (which is a sunday so that doesnt make much sense)
It's very oddly worded sentence, but I do actually think they're saying it's being announced March 5th. If they were playing March 5th it would definitely already be announced.
Now I am confused because the routing seems to make them a lock but then saying they will announce on March 5th the Chicago date which is a Sunday, hmm…
Ghost is supposed to be announcing a US tour with Amon Amarth, I’m sorta hopin it doesn’t have a Chicago date, would be a cool stage closer combo that’s counter-programming to a headliner
I think an announcement is what they’re saying too. If that is the case, Pile may actually be playing Pitchfork. Pitchfork usually drops the lineup around that time during March.
mondays are way more fun when there are added possibilities instead of just a bunch 'well theyre out now" haha
