Do you think Osees has a grudge against Riot/Riot Mike and intentionally books Thalia Hall shows Riot weekend just to spite the festival?

(Mostly kidding, but every year I see people complain how the two events conflict)

This appears to be the third year in a row. When i first saw it I was wondering if Thalia has some sort of anniversary or connection to the band to always book them then, but I didn't see anything. Seems strange, but at least I'll have something to do if they book Green Day or Pantera and I'm not digging the other closers.

Just realized Frank Turner has a good possibility to be at Riot. He is not playing the Chicago stop of the tour with The Interrupters and he will be back in the California at the end of September. Also it will be the 10th anniversary of Tape Deck Heart which would be a cool album play.

Im just not sure if his California shows would be a US exclusive as they are part of his festival Lost Evenings

You might be onto something! It's odd that the bigger tour skips Chicago... And I doubt the Lost Evenings shows will be US exclusives. Last time he did one of those over here (Boston in 2019) he did a run of east coast/midwest dates leading up to it.

That said, if he plays Riot, I would put more money on him doing a standard "greatest hits" set over a Tape Deck Heart album play to keep that one exclusive to his own "festival."

im pumped because the STL show for the FT/interrupters tour just announced that Radkey will be opening the show, so that top to bottom bangers as far as im concerned.

That's rad! I'm feeling kinda weird about that tour. Haha. I love Frank Turner but I've seen him so many times, I'm kinda "over" the Interrupters whole "schtick" despite still enjoying how catchy their songs are, and I like all of the openers but don't feel compelled to see another solo set from Chuck or Laura...

It's still a really cool line-up despite all of that, though! Just not for me at this point. Hah. And honestly, if they were to add like Rebuilder or Radkey or another smaller band Frank is friends with? That would get me there. Otherwise, I'll probably be waiting to see if Frank gets added to Riot. Haha.

yea im not sure why my show didnt get ANY of the other tour openers, the show event page has said "with special guests TBA" since it was announced in december, but radkey recently announced they are on the show, dunno the logistics, but ill gladly take it. And Im the opposite where i have only seen Frank 1 time, and it was as Möngöl Hörde , so im glad to see him in a more...traditional (?) way, haha

Thats fair, and he plays a lot of Tape Heart Deck on a greatest hits set anyway. Either way it would be cool seeing him at Riot!

I’m at the Jeff Rosenstock/Laura Stevenson show in Chicago and Mikey Erg is opening who I have never listened to before and I am very much vibing with his set so this is my request for him or his band to play this year.

He played an ergs reunion set in 2019 I believe. I’m sure he’s drummed for someone else as well. Doubt he plays riot solo. That’s more of a fest/pouzza play.

Riot doesnt book a lot of hardcore acts, but Bane and The Suicide File are playing a reunion show in Boston

I could maybe see him first on the Radical/Rise stage, or mid-day on Rebel, on a day that leans particularly heavy into traditional pop-punk.

Thing is, as great as Mikey Erg is? There's always gonna be other pop-punk acts of that ilk that I'd prefer to his solo stuff if I'm being real about it. Tightwire, Rational Anthem, and the Young Rochelles immediately come to mind.

I'm really curious to see if Bane does more than this one show. This has all the feels of a "soft announcement" for a bigger reunion of sorts... But I also know they were pretty serious about never actually playing again.

Even when the Stu benefit show took place in 2021, they were pretty adamant leading up to the show that they were still never planning on playing again. And not in a gimmicky "we gotta keep the secret" sort of way either. It seemed like it was a relatively last-minute decision to add themselves to the bill... But you definitely got the sense during that set that they really missed it and the whole thing was super cathartic for them.

So... I could see it going either way. But if they do plan on more shows? I think Riot would be a fantastic fit! They're just big enough, and with it being a "reunion" set it would be a decently big deal. Let 'em close Rebel!

Bane is a top 5 all time band for me. I want all my favorite bands to play Riot Fest so I can see them there. Every year I complain that Riot Fest doesn’t book enough hardcore.

but honestly, if I’m to see Bane for the first time I want it to be in the right setting— a small space not meant for live music with questionable structural integrity and no barricade.

If they did like a super DIY aftershow one night and then played the fest the next day, that’d be awesome. But I don’t want a festival appearance at the expense of the real thing

I'm only reporting good news from now on...

Origami Angel & Pinkshift have a few midwest shows this spring with no Chicago date.. I think Pinkshift is pretty close to a lock but both would be cool

Even at Fest, he tends to play pretty small venues or first on the bigger clubs. I feel like the festival is better off giving that early spot to a younger band.

If you want to see Bane in a setting like that? You missed the boat by like, a decade. Haha. That venue in Boston is the same room Turnstile played back in November.

I feel you. But I kinda feel like, if they do any sort of touring, it'll be on a slightly bigger scale than before. With occasional festival dates because money.

I'm not sure the festival would be "better off," but I'd definitely prefer that they do that! Haha. I just don't feel like it's out of the realm of possibility for them to book him.

Bands like Meet Me @ The Altar and Pinkshift make more sense in that early spot bc younger fans are more likely to commit to going at doors. The Mikey Erg solo head in Chicago is probably pissed that they have to pay festival pricing to see him and maybe drive to Michigan or Iowa City for the $15-$20 show at a small club. The solo act (even if full band) doesn’t really do much for the festival. It would be the festival giving him the spot bc they are homies.

I’m not saying they’ll immediately jump back to DIY shows. I’m sure the Boston show will be in high demand, then they’ll follow it up with a TIHC headlining slot and an appearance at Furnace Fest. Demand will taper off fast with every show they play.

In 2016 they played my city for the “last time” with Leeway, Expire, and a very young Knocked Loose. They couldn’t sell out a church basement. A few months later they had the huge legendary final shows.

I think Bane demand was (and still is) tied to a sense of low supply. I know their first, second, third, and fourth shows back will be crazy. Their 30th will probably be not that big of a deal.

Not a TON of crossover here in my eyes. NJ -> Chicago isn't a huge trek overnight (or two if they do RF Friday and play this Sunday) but most of the best fits here have played recently. Would be cool to see the Breeders tho.
