Filter is such an interesting case to me in terms of draw, where they fall on festival line-ups, general popularity, etc. They had a run from like, 1995-2002 where they were staples on multiple rock radio formats. During that time, they had a few songs that were in regular rotation on MTV - including one that was a pretty big hit across multiple formats (Top 40, AC). Usually that locks a band into playing like, House of Blues-sized venues for the rest of their career. But I kinda think Filter is a "band without a home." With the exception of a few tracks, they're too heavy for the rest of the Summerland bands. They aren't really all that "industrial," for the purists of that genre. And I think your average hard rock and/or nu-metal fan would consider them to be "too poppy" or whatever. I remember seeing them opening for Coal Chamber like, 3-4 years back and thinking it made sense but also didn't make sense at the same time. Haha. They have a bunch of amazing songs (and Title of Record is a fully underrated album, IMHO) but I feel like their lack of a consistent "scene" and the fact that they were always kinda playing second-fiddle to NIN during their biggest time period didn't do them any favors. People like listening to the songs that they know, but I don't know that there's a big live demand for them. The Cure would be a repeat too! Hah. But yeah, it's always hard to know what's going to happen headliner-wise. I feel like every year we assume it'll all be repeats... And then some rock act that's been laying dormant for a few years, or a random reunion pops-up, that wind up being at least one of the headliners.
Oh yeah, this is a spot-on. They also haven’t really been active the past few years either (I mean, pandemic aside…), and I think the inactivity hurt them a bit. Richard has been pretty busy with scoring for indie movies and stuff. But I think this tour will help them get some steam back. Rob Zombie tours usually do pretty good right? Short Bus rules too
Granted it was basically a free show, but I saw them at a state fair like 7 years ago and they were pretty good all things considered lol. Hey Man Nice Shot, Take a Picture and Trip Like I Do were all fine generic 90's alt rock radio staples
I kind of doubt Rob Zombie ever plays Riot again.. he was perfect as a lead in for the Misfits in 2016 though
Those Mars Volta tour dates have me assuming there's going to be another run later in the year covering areas they didn't hit on round #1. Could see them hitting up the northeast and Riot Fest. Would be a really solid sub-headliner. Not my thing, but definitely a band a lot of people would be stoked on.
Yeah they did Chicago in the fall, I think. I could imagine them hitting the big cities again for some fests. Plus, I know they must have some foot in the door since ATDI played 2017
Ah! I forgot about that fall run... Makes it all a bit less likely because this is the "follow-up" run. LOL! But still. I wouldn't rule it out.
With all of the April - June tour dates starting to pop-up with a fervor, I think it's fair to say that we're on the verge of peak speculation season!
Seeing Trent invite Richard back to do "Hey Man Nice Shot" at their big Cleveland show this summer was incredible. He sounded spot on, the vocals were awesome.
EDIT: My whole Finch post is null and void because the image said May 03, not May 30th like my stupid brain auto-corrected it to. LOL Yeah. There's still a chance!
Everyone in this thread needs to listen to this album today whether you've heard it before or not. It was very good when it came out & it still holds up really well
If nothing else, just listen to the first like, two minutes of "Welcome to the Fold." That riff is a fucking beast! ...It's also a rare instance where a song is excessively long but it doesn't feel long at all when you're in it!
Not going to ditch my wife on her birthday to see Finch, so definitely hoping they're doing Riot as well.
I used Sept 17, if there's a radius clause it's probably based on Sept 17.. but it's way outside the 90 days either way Date Duration Calculator: Days Between Dates Result: 137 days
