I can easily see that be the main rock billing for Lolla. Unfortunately for these if they get a chance at Pitchfork over Riot, they’ll take it, and I’m thinking at least 3-5 of them will be at P4K. Some attendees don’t want to hear it but RF needs to start branching out more and stop banking on nostalgia being the selling point. Bring in more hands like The Mountain Goats, Angel Olsen, St Vincent, etc. and diversify the lineup.
It feels like the 6:00-8:00 PM slots have been particularly repetitive the last few years. There just aren’t that many punk bands of that level. I’d be really excited to see some more folk/indie/pop artists, although a lot of them will probably prefer the other fests, like you said.
All for more country. Ruston Kelly seems like an obvious choice. Given his tastes he'd probably love to play.
I think if she continues with a full band, I would love for the festival to book Julien Baker. She has a punk background, is known to enjoy lots of pop punk/punk/emo/etc. bands, and would be a cool early evening act. although, a lot of people already bitch how there isn’t enough punk booked, even though Riot Fest is not a punk festival, so I would dread all those comments.
Also I posted this in the 2022 thread but PLEASE book some current hip hop. Nothing wrong with like Ice Cube and Wu-Tang but there are some great current hip hop acts that would be perfect early evening acts. Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, Saba, Denzel Curry, etc.
Carly Rae, St. Vincent, Danny Elfman, Sparks, Chvrches, Bright Eyes, Jenny Lewis, King Diamond, And MGMT would be great 6pm-8pm acts.
I would agree but it didn’t translate well to outdoors on the Wild Hearts Tour. I’d be willing to give it another shot, though. All of these make so much sense. Also, next year is ten years of Bones so Chvrches makes a ton of sense.
has anyone checked on @alkalinexandy .. dont think we've heard from him since the fest started! also, shout out to @Tifoil was good to meet you briefly!
It appears as though I'm finally caught up on sleep, so here we go.... Tenacious D, Elliot, Armor for Sleep, Hidden in Plain View, Sleigh Bells, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk were all active-ish this year after quite a while of inactivity & I kind of thought all of them could be in play. Alice Cooper & Danny Elfman I feel like HAVE to play at some point, & would be my ideal place to see them. Chvrches & 100 Gecs would be cool pop acts that have huge alt fanbases 10 year album plays The Wonder Years - The Greatest Generation (I know they just played but they've said they're going to do 10 year shows for this record) Balance & Composure - The Things We Think We're Missing (pipe dream, but who knows) The 1975 - S/T (this won't happen, but I would love if it did) The World Is A Beautiful Place.... - Whenever, If Ever Have Mercy - The Earth Pushed Back (they're back together & just put out a new ep, I could see this happening) Moving Mountains - S/T (reunion & album play would be SICK this band was too good & underappreciated) 15 year album plays The Maine - Can't Stop Won't Stop (they just played for the first time & they said they'll never do this album again, but I'd love it) Hit the Lights - Skip School, Start Fights (never played, this would be a good opportunity that I think a ton of people would dig) Valencia - We All Need a Reason To Believe 3OH!3 - Want (at first I was thinking this wouldn't fit,but honestly I think a ton of people would fuck with it) Girl Talk - Feed the Animals (another that doesn't fit but does) Foxboro Hot Tubs - Stop Drop & Roll (fuck it lol) Lydia - Illuminate Forgive Durden - Razia's Shadow (it's weird enough to work) The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound Crystal Castles - S/T Vampire Weekend - S/T Fleet Foxes - S/T 20 year album plays As referenced by Jason in this article he wrote in September 2020, 2003 was a big year for the scene. I think it's not surprising that Bamboozle is coming back in 2023, there are SO MANY possibilities for 20 year album plays & nostalgia is as hot as it's ever been AFI - Sing the Sorrow The Ataris - So Long Astoria Anberlin - Blueprints for the Black Market (just played so probably not) Blink-182 - Untitled (I think everyone's Lolla guesses are probably right) Boys Night Out - Make Yourself Sick American Hi-Fi - The Art of Losing Boysetsfire - Tomorrow Come Today Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth Copeland - Beneath the Medicine Tree (You Are My Sunshine is also a 10 year anniversary????) Dashboard Confessional - A Mark A Mission A Brand A Scar Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism The Early November - The Room's Too Cold Every Time I Die - Hot Damn! (not happening, but fuck it) Fall Out Boy - Take This To Your Grave The Format - Interventions + Lullabies (they were gonna play reunion shows recently...) Funeral For a Friend - Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation Further Seems Forever - How to Start a Fire Less Than Jake - Anthem (just played, but whatever) Limbeck - Hey, Everything's Great Mae - Destination:Beautiful Matchbook Romance - Stories and Alibis The Movielife - Forty Hour Train Back to Penn MxPx - Before Everything and After Park - It Won't Snow Where You're Going The Postal Service - Give Up (I would do anything for this but they're too big right?) Relient K - Two Lefts Don't Make a Right … But Three Do Rise Against - Revolutions Per Minute Saosin - Translating The Name EP (I'd be surprised if Saosin DOESN'T do some shows for this) Senses Fail - From the Depths of Dreams EP (already played recently at Riot, but who knows) Story of the Year - Page Avenue (I really thought we would get SOTY this year, next year seems right) Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue (we're not getting this again, but it was on the list. I think we got the kickoff before the tour) Thursday - War All the Time (I could see this happening) 25 Year Album Plays Outkast - Aquemini Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea Mos Def & Talib Kweli - Blackstar Garbage - Version 2.0 Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing Hole - Celebrity Skin Korn - Follow the Leader The Offspring - Americana Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come 30 Year Album Plays Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Wu-Tang - 36 Chambers Pet Shop Boys - Very A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle Liz Phair - Exile in Guyville Cypress Hill - Black Sunday Counting Crows - August & Everything After New Order - Republic The Cranberries - Everybody Else is Doing It, So Why Can't We? (0% chance this happens since they disbanded but I wish Dolores was alive & it was a possibility) 40 Year Album Plays Echo & the Bunnymen - Porcupine Tears For Fear - The Hurting UB40 - Labour of Love 40th Anniversary
I saw @alkalinexandy every day of the fest, but haven't heard from him on here or Twitter since, just messaged him
in regards to the postal service, Ben said after their metro aftershow a few years ago that it was going to be the last PS show ever.
I did not know that, damn. I also went to the last Armor For Sleep show in Boston in 2015 & Ben said it would be their last show ever too, yet here we are
yeah, I struck out getting tickets but I remember him being quoted saying it and saw this on the setlist.fm page for the show
I'm alive and well and had been planning on posting a mini-recap of my weekend today now that I'm home! Hah. Thanks for checking in. I'm just not very good about hopping on Chorus (or most social media platforms requiring text/words) while I'm on the move. Man, what a weekend. For a "vacation" I was certainly go-go-go the entire time! It was great to meet @theasteriskera before No Trigger, however briefly it may have been!
