I mean, that line's okay. But when he says "No offense, Tammy but drink my blood" and then proclaims that to be a "Todd original" is one of the most beautiful moments in SNL history.
Alice Cooper announced a small midwest tour in the spring and it skips chicago. he and joan jett are the 2 'classic rock' acts i need to check off my bucketlist (and if generous, styx can be 3rd)
Both would be fun Riot Fest adds, though I still have it out for Alice Cooper over the bullshit he caused at Montebello Rockfest that one year. (Effectively, his giant robots or whatever weren't set-up and his management delayed opening of the doors to the festival 30-45 minutes because of this. Which meant that Mad Caddies literally started playing before people were in the venue, Lagwagon's set time got bumped, and the Bosstones got shifted to a different stage. It ultimately led to kinda cool, fun experiences but... There was something "rocks star" about it that still bugs me to this day.)
RE: NOFX and their run of shows According to their socials these are the only US shows they have set for this year. They might be adding more for later in 2023 but there will be more in 2024. So I think this definitely rules out Riot for this year (the dates kinda did anyway). But I think this definitely ups the chances they do Riot next year.
Are you driving distance from any legitimate casino establishment, then you'll probably be able to check off one or both at some point. (not a knock.. saw Dave Attell & Gin Blossoms at casinos last year and both were great).. I only went the Friday and it was last minute, but Joan played the Saturday and ended up doing 2 songs with the Foo and boy do I regret not being able to go DeLuna Fest 2012 Setlists
NOFX is playing their final UK shows at Slam Dunk Festival. So I guess this give more chances for their final Chicago show to be at Riot.
Govenors ball & Echoland both announced their line ups, not a ton of cross over on either. echoland could have a handful of riot-esque bands (flaming lips, 100 gecs, tenacious D), but most notably for my own bucket list is Ghostland Observatory & digable planets (missed them a few years ago, my biggest riot-regret)
i guess its the 2nd straight week of Festival Lineup Tuesday. very cool line up but only 4 or 5 acts that realllly get me pumped
the hits keep coming. this tour ends early sept and no chicago date. all 3 bands are metal bands people have wanted and said 'fit the vibe' so this could/should be a thing! this could totally be counter programming to the postal service/death cab
Are Mastodon and/or Gojira big enough to headline a stage? I'm guessing "no," but I'm honestly not sure. If not... Deftones?
that would be god damn epic, and is now* my headcannon, but then i wonder is goirja to big to be 3rd to last on a stage
From the Just Like Heaven lineup, the band I'd most like to see on Riot is The Faint. They'd be a lot of fun. Would also love to see Mastodon.
Ehhh, they usually don't put them on sale until like April with the first wave of bands. I wish we knew more now, but there's time.
The venues on this run seem to be 3-5k. Leads me to believe that Mastodon might be able to close out a stage, but Riot would want a particularly strong Riot stage headliner that night (and assuming they are on the Radical/Rise stage combo, a strong stage closer on the stage opposite them). If this tour sells quickly then I'll gladly eat these words. Haha. I could definitely see the Faint early in the day on a stage with Death Cab and the Postal Service!
Pedro the Lion out? Playing their debut and Control in full, Thalia Hall 5/27 Would have been a nice album get.
Someone on Reddit pointed out that Hammond, Indiana is basically Chicago, so the whole thing may be off the table… drats.
Nah keep Pantera away from riot fest. The last thing we need is off duty cops and white nationalists at a punk fest in a predominantly black & brown neighborhood
