Riot Fest at the CTA, each train is a different stage There Was a Punk Show on BART Friday Night | KQED
twofer of rock fests announced both Sunday line ups are good, sonic temple's thurs and fri both have high points surrounded by a bunch of meh
I actually kinda dig that Sonic Temple lineup. Especially Sunday. But I must say, SWR and Jawbreaker being on that lineup is… interesting
If Iived in Columbus I'd run over for Sonic Temple for the 5-6 bands each day I'd want to see but don't think I could realistically travel for it.
must be festival release day -korn listed 6th of the day randomly is wild. -i dig friday with PtM, AFI, and knocked loose -franz ferdinand looks way to low on this list
I’m not in tune with his music, so maybe I’m wrong in this assumption, but Andrew McMahon seems a bit low on that lineup?
Sonic Temple's Sunday line-up is the best festival drop in a while. If you swapped Queens in for Godsmack on Friday that day would be pretty unstoppable, as well.
Have we determined that RHCP would be too big for Riot? Seeing them pop up on festivals this year made me wonder this
Yeah Paramore will definitely be on Lolla as well, it'll be interesting to see who else goes that route
I really don't understand the "Alanis is a Riot act" premise. Other than being marketed to rock-radio for a single album in the 90s... It's just not a great fit. And by that logic, they might as well book Sheryl Crow and Jewel. I get wanting to see her there. But from an aesthetic/logical perspective it's just... Not a good fit and will probably never happen. Hah. Now, Garbage on the other hand. I can't wrap my head around how that hasn't happened yet.
I was admittedly a little young for the true Alanis heyday, but I feel like she had a grungy, rebellious, "fuck it" attitude and style that was marketed specifically in opposition to Jewel and Crow and the like. On paper, I would have assumed she was a better fit for Riot than Liz Phair, for example.
saw jewel this summer and it was incredible. i wont say she fits for riot but if you have the chance to see her, take it!
Jewel is incredibly punk. Turning down a million dollar contract for the first album when she was essentially homeless (a decision that aged very well) is about the punkest thing you can do. Not saying that to state her case for Riot, I just think it’s awesome. But I do think all them could fit Riot in different ways.
That's how she was marketed and she pulled it off. But it didn't really stick long-term. That was a "moment" for her, rather than her career. Liz Phair was kinda the opposite. She was an indie-darling throughout most of the 90s... And had that one album in the early 2000s where she really "went for it." (Not that Alanis was deliberately "going for it." It was all natural, totally her, and all that... Just an amazing set of songs with the right attitude in the right moment. But she evolved/grew beyond that.) The Goo Goo Dolls are in the same boat for me. Booking them at Riot would just be super weird unless it were an album play for Boy Named Goo or something. Undeniably influential and all that... But they would be an odd booking given the current context they reside in.
Goo Goo Dolls are also sick. Unless they are playing early stuff it probably doesn’t fit, I agree. Amigone off Dizzy Up the Girl is the newest song that I can think of that had their original punk feel. We wouldn’t have The Lawrence Arms without the Goo Goo Dolls though, so I wouldn’t be opposed to it haha.
