Friday and Saturday are pretty empty for me beyond H09909 and the Bronx... But Friday's headliners are strong across the board and worth the price of admission alone. Sunday pretty much feels like a completely different festival too. If that were within driving distance, I would 100% be attending Sunday all day. The headliners are great, Coheed, Pennywise, Filter, Anti-Flag, Senses Fail, Angel Du$t, and Bob Dylan are all fantastic... And the rest is all stuff I' wouldn't mind watching. So yeah. Pretty impressed! (Though I still am left kinda laughing because I feel like every other year or so Pennywise, Anti-Flag, and Senses Fail play these things. Usually when they're giving Bad Religion, Rancid, and/or Social D a break.)
i'm going to louder than life in louisville which is another dwp fest, i really hope a lot of that lineup carries over to it
Audio Karate just tweeted that they'll be in Chicago in 2023. Almost positive that it'll be a regular show and not Riot Fest but... Wanted to share because I know a few of the locals are into them! So be on the lookout!
haven’t thought of them in forever. Takes me back to the days when 1 of the factors of if I like bands was based on which record label they were on. Kung fu, drive thru, and ferret 4 life. Lol
My early ones were Tooth and Nail and Fueled By Ramen. Later it was No Sleep, Run For Cover, Topshelf, and Tiny Engines. Also weird to think there was also a phase in 2012-2014 when I followed Rise really closely because they put out so much punk.
Vagrant was in the mix for me toward the end of high school for me (2001-2002). By the end of college, Epitaph and Drive-Thru were fully replaced by Nitro and No Idea. Kung-Fu remained in the mix but the only bands that ever really stuck with me from that era were Audio Karate and Tsunami Bomb. Hah. Interestingly, though, Audio Karate was 100% one of the bands that served as a bridge toward the gruff-vocaled stuff I got into. It was them, the Crush, and Hot Water Music that led that for me.
Vagrant all the way babyyyy. Edit: Also got super into Eyeball Records for a bit. They had a bunch of awesome bands that never really took off, but a few of them inexplicably came through central IL more than once so i kinda latched on.
Siouxsie will be playing her first show in 10 years next July, would she be worth of headlining Riot?
Doubt that she'd be a headliner but... Would be a really awesome addition toward the top of the poster!
i doubt headliner, but certainly a 5pm or later spot. would be great pairing to lead into a re-try with bauhaus, or if they got the cure again, or anyhting in that late 80's early 90s goth/new wave/post punk vibe
pleeeease get this riot fest. if riot could pull this (and the finch return thats popped up, and postal service), this could already be on its way to my favorite RF line up yet
She's on my bucket list, so her appearance on the line-up is more than welcomed. I can see her closing a stage or as a Sub-Headliner/ maybe "Sub-Sub-Headliner" if Riot books The Cure or Depeche Mode.
This is waaaay more metal than what Riot is, but may give some ideas of who is active next year touring wise. Who would you want from this lineup at Riot Fest?
I'm honestly not seeing anything particularly interesting in there that we might not anticipate/expect otherwise. Fishbone, Sum-41, Less Than Jake, Rancid, and the like are all on the "once every few years" list anyway. And most of those are artists who tour with a decent bit of regularity, anyway... Incubus being on a few festivals now makes me think they'd be in the mix, though. And would be awesome to see the Distillers finally pop on.
Have we discussed Good Charlotte? Only show announced for next year is WWWYF, but if they’re revving up for some shows next year, I think they could be on
They're always on my "won't pay to see them on their own but will bounce around to the hits at a festival" list. Bonus points if they do a Young and the Hopeless album play.
That would be pretty interesting and I'd love it (haven't seen them since 2002), though I wonder where in the day they would fall. Certainly not headliners but also not in the middle of the afternoon. Closing a side stage? The 2-3 bands before a headliner on the main?
