They have a giant obvious gap Riot Fest weekend on a tour not starting until September, plus Death Cab have played Riot already (in 2016, along with Death Grips.. rule #1 of Riot: Riot booking acts that have already played)
It's not just the dates, but the routing too. They're in DC, then have two days off, then travel to Michigan for one show, and head back to New York the next day? Nah also that 2013 Lolla lineup looks way closer to current Riot Fest lineups than it does to current Lolla lineups.
DCFC has another festival booked for Chicago. Can’t announce the date for this tour yet but the routine happens to coincide with RF dates Not saying it’s a for sure thing but it’s happened before.
that lolla 2013 line up is wild through todays lens- imagine dragons, ghost, chance the rapper and 21 pilots were all varying degrees of deeeeep in the undercard of just the first day of that lolla, haha
Flier information like this doesn't mean anything. I remember a bunch of tours playing Mojo's/The Forge in Joliet listed with Chicago on the flier despite the fact it's Joliet.
They’re not doing a September tour with a date in Detroit the 17th and not playing Riot Fest. Plus they aren’t really a Pitchforky act and they will get higher billing here than Lolla.
I could actually see Death Cab doing Lolla and Postal Service doing Riot, but I very much hope they're both at this.
My food logistic solution? Go to the hot dog vendor around like 2 pm. Bring a backpack. Order as many dogs and water bottles as you would need for the rest of the day. They’ll come in foil, so you can save them in your backpack. That’s how I stayed fed and hydrated waiting for MCR
Someone in the Riot Fest Facebook group said, in response to Death Cab/Postal Service playing: “We want better bands” and I laughed out loud. I would much rather have two celebrated bands, one who has never played the festival and the other who has not played in years, playing two celebrated albums in full than like Rise Against or Alkaline Trio or The Flaming Lips or [insert band that appears often] again lol.
The last few days’ announcements had me ready to get an Airbnb today then I remembered we don’t know if the location is Douglass or not. Fuck
Those two things aren't mutually exclusive, though? I feel like having bands like Rise Against and Alkaline Trio on the bill is super important to Riot Fest's aesthetic, and what makes it unique compared to other festivals to be honest. It would be boring if that was all they booked. But that hasn't been the case since it moved outside. They've always booked that music as well as other genres to keep it interesting. It feels like there's two camps of people perpetually complaining about the line-up: People who should just give it up and go to one of the "Punk in the Park" festivals out in California. And people who should stop complaining about Riot Fest and start trying to lobby Lollapalooza to book more bands that play guitars (because they'd have a better shot at that than to have Riot start booking some of the borderline crossover acts Lolla books). IMHO, the Riot Fest formula is pretty perfect from a genre perspective, and any sway too far in any one direction would cause it to tumble and make it be something completely different than what it is.
But also: I would love to ask that person what they would consider to be a "better band." Finger in the air, I'm guessing they come back with Dropkick Murphys, Pennywise, and Korn. I like all three of those bands. And Death Cab. And the Postal Service. So no shade. But people are so damn silly... I'm also super fatigued from COVID and the resultant medicines at the moment, so sorry if any this sounds snarkier than usual.
Hey, I just met you. And this is crazy. But here’s my number you’re freaking me out, you wear a mask all counterfeit. Ooh-WAH-ah-haha.
i read this comment as i was going to bed last night and grateful to my brain that the one song that got stuck in my head from it was counterfeit, and not the other 2. haha
