That line-up would get me to Riot Fest in a heartbeat. And honestly, I think an "exclusive" Operation Ivy reunion is the one surefire thing that would get Green Day to appear at Riot. And given the way Green Day's legacy has shaken out these last few years... I could see them releasing a new album in the winter followed by a proper US tour in the late winter/early spring (ranging from hockey arenas to amphitheaters), spending the summer doing European festivals, and then coming back to the US for more shows (festival dates with a smattering of other regional dates in-between) that might lean into their past/legacy a bit more. So yeah. I could see Riot happening in 2024. Give me a "Dookie" album play and I'm there, no matter what else is happening. Not sure how smart a move it would be for Riot to book the same band (any band, really, TBH) to headline two dates of a three day festival but... I'd love to see it!
I mean, Weezer headlined both nights of Riot Toronto in 2015 where they played Blue one night and Pinkerton the other. I think Riot could pull something like that with Green Day, given their fan base
Riot Fest Toronto in 2015 was a very different beast than Riot Fest Chicago 2015. It was decidedly smaller... With Alexisonfire and Weezer top-billed for day #1 and the Prodigy and Weezer top-billed for day #2. In contrast, Chicago had No Doubt/Faith No More on Friday; System of a Down/Iggy Pop on Saturday; and Modest Mouse/the Prodigy on Sunday. Chicago was just always the bigger fest. Weezer was a sub in Chicago that year. That said, I guess it might work with the right counter-programming? Just feels a little risky to me. But maybe on Green Day's second day is where you load up Rise/Radicals with hip-hop or pop headliners.
I'll probably shy from aftershows like normal, but I gotta say, if there's a Balance & Composure show I wouldn't even hesitate
They just announced 2 Things We Think We're Missing shows, hopefully they do that in Chicago on Saturday as an aftershow
I’m guessing aftershows announcing today? Or maybe this was just a one off announcement? Edit: Oh this is a week after Riot, so probably just a one off announcement.
Thats odd. Never seen a headliner come back to Chicago a few days after Riot. This would be sick as an aftershow but as a concert the week after...
I’m guessing they really wanted to play at The Salt Shed and since they have shows all three days of Riot they couldn’t make it work.
I imagine this show for folks that can’t do Riot or simply don’t want to do Riot. It’s cool for sure. But super unusual…
The above is true but I feel like it may also deter people who otherwise would have bought a Riot ticket for those two bands. I guess the show will probably sell out quickly though.
I guess Riot is selling really well. But also The Salt Shed is a small venue compared to the others they are playing in the tour
The "oh shit I should really get my ticket soon but I also have lolla next weekend and am out of money" effect
