I honestly don't care if bands share instruments, don't have the correct banner out have no production etc. and generally don't sound their best. This is definitely more about the experience of sharing the moment with 75k + (guess?) other people, and just seeing so much music in one day. Definitely expecting quantity over quality for a lot of the undercards. Now I do expect all the evening (especially post sundown sets) to ramp up the production.
The Taylor Swift playing Riot Fest post is obviously unrealistic and I definitely laughed at the “Would she headline?” question but it did get me thinking…has this festival really not had a female headliner since No Doubt in 2015? (and by headliner I mean top act of the day) That’s kind of whack. Maybe the pool of viable options is small, sure, but Lollapalooza and Pitchfork always manage to have at least one female headliner per year. (This is the perfect opportunity to say they should get Hole)
I think the second you step out of pop and hip-hop it becomes infinitely more challenging. We're still playing catch up from the 90s and early 2000s, unfortunately... This is one of the reasons I was hoping for Paramore this year.
Bonus points if it were an album play ("Live Through This" or "Celebrity Skin" oughta do it). EDIT: But they would need two super strong headliners the other two days. Hole would work but would be a stretch.
I think they'd be at the top of the poster, especially if it's their first show back, but might get the Bikini Kill / Raconteurs treatment where a newer band with the same or bigger draw closes Roots right before them. Paramore could slot in there pretty easily if they aren't headliner-level on their own (but I think Paramore is a true headliner at this point).
I think we are getting Paramore in 2023, feels like the right time, especially if the album does really well
I would looooove to see Hole (with at least Courtney and Melissa Auf Der Maur) do Celebrity Skin. I was a obsessed with that record when it came out and I think it holds up really fucking well. I don't think that Melissa has been in part of the band for 20ish years now, but I believe they did an event together in 2020 so I do have a lil bit of hope.
The 2020 event was cancelled because of the pandemic, and last year from Courtney... "Jun 2, 2021 — Courtney Love seems to have put the definitive kibosh on a Hole reunion, telling Vogue, there is “absolutely not” going be a reunion." although I'd be foolish to actually believe anything Courtney Love says
Maybe but Riot hasn't really booked that many mathcore bands if any in the past also, they may just be doing the 2 Seattle shows in February for all we know
They have some history of metalcore. ETID, Converge, Hatebreed and The Dillinger Escape Plan have all played Chicago or Denver. I don’t think Botch playing would be unfitting at all
Botch could definitely work with the right bands. Honestly, you could just slot them just before GWAR on Rebel and have it work if nothing else. Also: Aren't Underoath huge fans?
TONS of metalcore and post-hardcore bands of the era are fans. Botch is one of the most influential metalcore bands of the era. It would def be a big deal if Riot got Botch
