Holy shit, what a line-up! There's not enough that I need to see to get me to pull the trigger but... That poster is a work of art. There's a range of genres represented, artists that are old and new, but it all still feels very "Riot Fest" which is a delicate balancing act. And this thing goes deep. It kinda feels like the 2019 poster in that way. But for me, unfortunately, there's just not enough "OMG I have to see that band again" on here for it to be worth it given a few other things happening for me this year. There is a lot of "oh, that'd be cool to see" but not much "holy shit." Collectively, though, it's really really cool and I hope everyone who goes has the best time! PS: Not sure if it's been talked about yet, but I noticed Scott Ian asked Walter S what band he'd be playing with on Saturday (on IG). So safe to guess that Mr. Bungle is playing that day.
That is kind of how I feel. There aren’t a lot of my favorite bands or exclusive reunions where I would travel if I didn’t live here. But this lineup probably has the highest percentage that I would at least be open to seeing. Usually there are plenty of bands I try to listen to and don’t like at all. There are hardly any this year.
So maybe older hardcore bands on Rebel or something on Saturday and younger hardcore bands on whatever stage Turnstile plays on Friday?
I can see Turnstile stage being something like Fleshwater - Gorilla Biscuit - Code Orange - Mr. Bungle/Death Grips - Turnstile. I feel there will be a lot of people hurt in there.
Yeah my guess would be Saturday rebel stage- Gorilla Biscuits headline with H2O, Snapcase, Earth Crisis, and maybe Exploited. Drain will either be on there or with turnstile stage
favorites line up discoveries so far? For me its The Bobby Lees, Yard Act, Fade 'em all, Fea, and Olivia Jean, and i still have plenty more to go.
i hadn't heard of Snapcase before this but they are absolutely on my to-see list. That snare on Caboose is nasty
The lineup is so diverse yet interconnected that It’s been fun gaming out the top 3-4 lines to see who is headlining a side stage vs opening for a headliner, so many ways they could go… like who’s plays right before the cure? Dresden dolls, AFI, Kim gordon? A few themes seem plausible: -Metal stage (mr bungle, sleep token, code orange) -Chaos stage (100 gecs, death grips, icp) but also death grips could anchor a hip hop stage themselves, and if that’s the case, maybe pair gecs in front of turnstile as the 2 young bands with rockets on their back? -Post hardcore stage with the used, finch, Silverstein, Thursday.. I personally am hoping for a Saturday roots line up of groovy/dance rock ending with head automatica-> viagra boys -> QotSA this year is going to be so fun as there is sooo much I want to check out, gonna be lots of bouncing around, not much camping
I thought on AFI playing right before The Cure, but also on them playing the same slot as Yellowcard last year., headlining the stage with bands like Thursday, The Used, Finch
There is a contest on Twitter to tell how many times Josh has played Riot. This was my answer but not sure if Im missing some 2011 - Weezer (Chicago 2013 - The Replacements (Toronto, Chicago, Denver), Sublime With Rome (Chicago 2014 - Sublime With Rome (Denver) 2021 - Devo (Chicago)
I feel like he’s played a few more times than this, but I’ll have to look. Otherwise, I think this is accurate
The ones I have doubt with are The Vandals in 2015 and 2016 but it seems Derek from Ak3 fill for them during those shows
Somewhat related side note: I’m kinda confused over Josh Freese’s status in Foo Fighters. Is he their new permanent drummer? Or is he just touring with them? I’m hearing different things from different sources. Most of the articles I’ve been reading state that he’s replaced Taylor completely, but some are only saying he’s just playing all 2023 tour dates. Is there any solid detail?
Officially in ‘see as many riot bands now so conflicts can be easier’ mode. Saw interrupters & Frank turner 2 days ago, and got Drain coming up next.
Any updates on bands that have confirmed their day ? Will update and edit here for now, let me know if I'm missing anything Friday: Foo Fighters, Turnstile, Tegan & Sara, PUP, Ani DiFranco, Hawthorne Heights, Oso Oso, Origami Angel, the Breeders, Olivia Jean Saturday: Postal Service, Death Cab, Queens of the Stone Age, Sleep Token, Quicksand, Bowling for Soup, Warpaint, H2O, Ride, Mr. Bungle, Death Grips* Sunday: the Cure, Mars Volta, Finch, Gaslight Anthem, Flogging Molly, the Bronx, Braid, the Dresden Dolls*
