I went to see Weezer and I have also regretted it since (not against Weezer, just have seen Weezer many times since then and yet to see the Cure)
Yep, between the downpour on Friday and the Mineral after show on Saturday, I was pretty beat by the time they started. But it was the year I lived a mile from Humboldt so I did hear The Cure almost my entire walk home, which was nice.
So who's missing from original speculation? Gwar (weird) Taking Back Sunday (less weird, but still weird) Streetlight Manifesto Goldfinger Aqua Scene Queen
Honestly love this year is a year where I'd be cool with leaving after 30 minutes of every headliner too. I'm seeing that Cure tour in June, so no issues there, and I'm good with just a little Postal Service and Foo Fighters.
There is one band I was hoping to see on here that I won't mention because y'all will make fun of me It's Pierce the Veil
MUST SEE Turnstile Death Cab for Cutie Code Orange REALLY WANT TO SEE Foo Fighters Death Grips PUP Insane Clown Posse Enter Shikari Everything else is just a cherry on top.
Priority Postal Service The Cure Sleep Token Finch George Clinton B&C everything else is bonus/can be decided when schedules drop
Absolute must-sees for me: Dresden Dolls, Turnstile, Pool Kids, The Gaslight Anthem. Stoked on and will see: Postal Service, Tegan and Sara, Say Anything, The Used, Finch, PUP, Hawthorne Heights, Ani Difranco, AFI, Origami Angel. Have seen them before, would love to watch again but not a priority: Frank Turner, Bayside, Thursday (unless they do a non-FC album play), Bowling for Soup, Free Throw, Oso Oso. Will make special effort to see them because I would never pay to see them on tour: ICP, 100 Gecs, Corey Feldman, Death Grips, Parliament. Can this start tomorrow?
So much OG hardcore on this too, makes me wonder if that's going to be the theming for the main stage on Friday before Turnstile (H2O, Gorilla Biscuits, Snapcase, Earth Crisis, etc)
I have a feeling that a lot of the shoegazey-type bands will play the day The Cure headlines (Ride, Nothing, etc.)
And all the 90s indie/grunge/whatever (Ani Difranco, Kim Deal, The Breeders, etc) will play the same say as the Foos.
Looks like Ride is doing Going Blank Again at another fest in Sept, so that's probably going to be one of the full album plays. Do we know any others for sure besides Death Cab/Postal Service? I know Finch/Spitalfield are both doing (or already did) their debuts in Chicago at other shows this year, but I suppose there's a chance they do it again for Riot too.
