Any combination of Something Corporate, Finch, Say Anything, or Pierce the Veil would make me want to go.
Rise against is prolly playing next year since they are on wwwy yes I know they are a month apart but there is crossover between the two this year
Depends on if they have an early or late 2023 U.S.A. tour. Cuz they have heart support in February then wwwy in October
I'm not even sure if I'm going but I'm glad that blink isn't playing Riot.. third time as headliners in less than 10 years is overkill
I’m definitely crossing my fingers for Something Corporate. They are one of the few bands on there that I haven’t seen and really want to see. And I feel like this could finally be the year for Green Day.
There is just no way this many bands on a single day is going to be as much fun as it should be on paper. Even with multiple stages, the sets will be so short and the conflicts so relentless that I imagine it'll feel more like a blur rather than a memorable day of live music. I don't get why they're doubling down on doing it in one day rather than splitting it across two or three. Really curious to see how this year's edition goes.
That WWYF takeis spot-on. I've been thinking about this a lot more since the new line-up dropped. The big appeal of this festival is the "economy of scale" vibe. It's not really for people who still go to shows, care about the bands in a holistic way, etc. Which is obviously very different than Riot Fest. Hah. I have two younger brothers who are passively into a bunch of these bands because they grew up hearing me play them around the house. They picked up on some of the songs and still listen to them to this day. But they don't keep up with newer music, have never seen most of them live, or whatever. One of them texted me the line-up talking about how great its as, I broke it down for them in terms of likely conflicts and set list lengths. The response? "That's perfect! So long as they use that 30 minutes to play the hits? That's all anybody needs anyway." I disagree with that sentiment, but I really do think that's who they're targeting with this thing. Which is fine, more power to the people going but... I still can't shake the icky feeling I get when I look at the poster and ticket prices.
that's exactly how i felt with the first lineup poster earlier this year. they know exactly who they're marketing towards and it's working. i still think it's going to be a total shit show, but i hope everyone going has a good time and we don't get a crowd as bad as the one for mcr at riot this year.
also of note that 2 years straight WWWY are relying on a mainstream news cycle level reunion and while riot obviously has its hand in the reunion pie, it doesn't completely bank on the reunion to be the end-all be-all of the line up. Im more curious on the inner working of the smaller reunions like finch and something corporate, cuz im sure they have been asked before by many fests and promoters over the years, does WWWY really just back up the brinks truck to these bands, or just got lucky to be the first in line when the bands decide to go for it.
it's livenation so i'm sure they just made a bigger offer than, say, riot could feasibly come up with
Based on the comments Mike from MxPx made about why they don't usually do festivals, I'm guessing money is a big part of it.
Well we don’t know that they aren’t playing Riot Fest before they play WWWY. And a couple of the artists on that lineup would be hyped up reunions if Riot Fest didn’t already have them reunite this year.
To be sure, I think the SoCo reunion is $$$ while the Finch reunion is probably just $. Haha. But yeah, I think LiveNation can offer up a bit more money than Riot might be able to. For certain bands, I think a small amount of additional money can make it way more worth it. Especially if you only play for 30 minutes versus, say, 45-60... In a city like Las Vegas versus Chicago where you could conceivably just turn it into a fun family trip. And a band like Finch would get like, 1pm on whatever stage (unless it's Rebel, in which case it would probably be 4-5). So even a couple grand more can make a world of difference. I also think a lot of the WWYF acts aren't really in the "Riot is begging them to come do an exclusive reunion at Riot Fest" group. It's more of a "Riot will probably book them if the band is doing it anyway and they ask to play."
We will learn a lot more about what this festival is when they announce the set times for 2022 (which they haven't done yet btw with the festival being next weekend)
On Lollapalooza subreddit they are speculating Pantera "reunion" could play Riot Fest. I truly hope they dont.
