The lineup itself no, it was hard to pick bands. I'm half joking about getting 33% of the lineup correct.
that same mock up in here had mercyful fate and icp, so even without mf i'd be really happy. have faygo on tap next to the water station
I was really on the fence about putting them there. From a business perspective, I wouldn't top bill them. I feel like Op Ivy as the Sunday headliner wouldn't move as many tickets. I could be really wrong though.
I would say that wanting ICP to play Riot Fest is lame but... I don't want to clown on people's musical tastes. Actually, it'd be kinda cool. Just saw the opportunity for a real bad joke and I went for it.
I saw that posted too for Mercyful Fate but I haven't seen any Psycho promo materials stating that for awhile. And I totally agree with ICP. But with Violent J's heart failure, I could see Riot doing it once as a farewell type of deal.
i'm not even necessarily a juggalo, i just have a lot of respect for those two and juggalos in general. plus their live show looks ridiculously fun so all in all i say riot goes for it.
I would bet that an Op Ivy reunion would move more tickets than Midnight Oil tho, specially at a festival like Riot
Assuming they were a festival exclusive, Operation Ivy would be more of a draw for the Riot Crowd than Midnight Oil, Mercyful Fate, and Bauhaus combined. EDIT: An Operation Ivy reunion, draw-wise, would be more than Jawbreaker and the Replacements but less than the Misfits.
That's a bet I don't want to wager. You could be right. If I had to pick the top 3 potential headliners, it'd be Midnight Oil, Operation Ivy or The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Hell, even The Cure as a dark horse. But I do firmly believe Riot will have less repeat bands this year.
Midnight Oil have a Chicago date in June. If they're playing Riot, it would be a second wave add. And given that they're actively touring the US... They won't be a headliner given the venue size they are playing on the current tour.
Random thought: What if they did a hip-hop leaning day on Rebel? Looking at that mock has me daydreaming about Danny Brown headlining that stage with ho9909 as direct support.
Now that I'm seeing the consensus. Could it be possible that Op Ivy & Midnight Oil (or similar legacy band) headline Sunday? It spreads the herd and attracts different types of audiences.
Midnight Oil is not playing Riot They are in New Zealand a week before Riot, they aren't flying back to the US for one show and I'll give you credit for at least picking some out of the box bands that never played Riot on your mock that are possible I'm not sure Paramore will be at Riot, it makes sense.. but having the 2 headliners at WWWYF might be overkill which is why I'd lean more towards like YYYs, SOAD, Jack White, or Op Ivy
on a positive i will say an absolutely great call with Your Old Droog. that would be an amazing get for the hip hop stage. would love him opening for like far side and black star.
Well thank you. I feel like Riot Fest hip-hop is the hardest to predict. That is an incredible line-up.
I don't know that t would be "overkill" so much as just a really smart booking, TBH. Although having three headliners in the "punk" realm (using that term loosely) and two in the "emo" arena might be overkill... Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be a good way to diversify a bit, but you could also arguably slot them in as headliner on Radical/Rise the same day as the Misfits or MCR.
Norma Jean, Emery, Oh Sleeper & Salt Creek are out.. have Texas dates all 3 days of Riot Aaron is on these dates as well, so basically Underoath are out as well
Nothing and Gatecreeper would be cool too. On a side note, its weird seeing Suicidal Tendencies headlining along with Emperor and Mercyful Fate
