A "tough" show announcement, hmmm? Interesting. Legit have no idea what that could be. Riots are tough, though. And I'd guess we're what? Less than a month away from the announcement at this point?
Unless it's a new festival that hasn't been announced yet.. kind of leaves only Riot or Gathering of the Juggalos (or Punk Rock Holiday, they are announcing replacements for h2o and Western Addiction) We can only fucking hope
K.Flay playing a free show at House of Vans Chicago next weekend. Posting this as some of you might be interested.
Purely anecdotal and I know we keep saying this but it *really* feels like the Twitter account has been more active than usual these past few days. Feels like that’s gotta be ramping up to an announcement
We're less than a month out. This feels pretty par for the course, TBH. Especially since a lot of the activity is just general fuckery and not tied to line-up tweets. They'll be much more active the next few weeks and we'll probably see a ramp up in "when we decide to announce it" type replies.
My guess is the week of May 9th. Maybe hints on 5/9 or 5/10 with the line up drop on 5/11 or 5/12. Pure guess though.
This was kinda my thought too. A bit earlier than usual, but given that they've had the two headliners locked for a long while... So it would make sense. Maybe a band will form called Operation Ivy Reunion and they can book them instead. EDIT: Similar to Jawbreaker Reunion. But ska.
Down at UIUC we had a band called "Free Fall Out Boy Concert" that would play local bars. Maybe they'll be the third headliner
Just had the same thought about Pulley! They'd be a pretty fun 1pm set for Radical Rise or a late afternoon Rebel act. If Descendents and/or Bad Religion do wind up playing I could see them on the same stage. Vaguely related, but I'm hoping Riot Fest gets on the Grumpster train. They'd be a perfect Rebel Stage act. New album just announced on Pure Noise, so I'm sure they'll be touring a whole bunch this year. First single is a banger. Just a really great pop-punk band that would add to the festival's LGBTQIA representation.
This is the week before Riot. Patti Smith, Devendra Banhart, and Jade Bird are the three I could see in play. I know Patti played last year but her Metro show in May sold out instantly so maybe she plays again. Wet Leg would have been a fun set at Riot, but they are playing Lolla.
That'd be 3 Riots in a row if Patti played, so I doubt it oh, and Wavves are out (played in 2014).. show in Chicago in August
Danny Elfman should play, that would be the perfect odd booking that Riot is known for. He was great at Coachella from what I heard.
It'd rule and Oingo Boingo has a huge following in the ska/punk community so it wouldn't be that odd.. but he had a 50 piece orchestra and I don't know how Riot could pull the whole thing off considering how Coachella has way more resources
Elfman would be sick as hell. Still don’t see Boingo getting back together tho. If they did, it’d probably be a SoCal-only thing
Elfman would be amazing and an undeniably perfect fit. But I'm not sure Riot could pull off the set-up he had with Coachella, so unless it was really stripped down it wouldn't work.
He played like 5 or 6 Oingo Boingo songs during his Coachella set, like I said... he couldn't do that same show at Riot, it's just not logistically possible
Unsure if its the show they teased previously (probably is unfortunately), but The vandals are subbing in for Tiger army for one date on the flogging molly/interrupters tour. would be an incredible line up.
