Just saw Geese open up for Jack White this past week. They'd definitely fit at Riot, kinda like a darker, post-punk Strokes. Not sure how apt they'd be to travel from Jersey to Chicago over a weekend to play a fest, but they'd work well as one of the first bands on any given day. Also might get roasted for this, but I caught The Darkness this weekend at a little 600 cap venue and they sounded great. Arguably better than the "live" album they just put out from a livestream show during COVID. He can still hit those notes, and the guitars are awesome. A lot of good energy and would be a fun early afternoon set, in the vein of Wolfmother/The Struts.
I missed that on their Twitter, I guess. But given how much they tweet things as jokes/a way to potentially manifest things into happening... I wouldn't read too much into it. Haha. They might actually be on it but I don't think either of these two things are indicators, necessarily.
The Linda Lindas have a show in Bloomington, IL opening for Japanese Breakfast in July. Hope this doesnt rule them out for Riot.
Handguns as well (which is a shame because they could have done a 10 year album play of Angst & because they would be the perfect band for the pop punk pizza party)
They canceled that Versa Festiva last month...Liz Phair back in play? https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/0...month-after-woman-powered-fest-was-announced/
Wiz Khalifa and Logic just announced a tour ending a couple weeks before Riot with no Chicago dates. Any thoughts on either of them being the rap acts this year?
It definitely puts her back in play. But I never really hold my breath for 90s legacy acts to play Riot more than once. I could see it happening, though I'm not really sure what either act has as far as draw goes these days. Headliner on Radical/Rise against the main stage headliner one of the days maybe?
I swear I saw Wiz is doing a Kush & Orange Juice album play at another festival this summer, which would be the best case scenario if he's booked. Like Rob Zombie doing Astro-Creep, I'd have little interest in seeing a standard set, but that album play would make me reconsider
Wiz is out, playing Summer Smash in August at Douglass Park Probably not I think we've figured out a lot of the lineup, just no idea on who the third headliner is (although if it's a name the caliber of MCR or Misfits, or even slightly under.. that's still a short list)
Oh what the fuck. I swear, every time I give up... @KindaFatMike or @Pokinatcha Punk post something that reels my fragile heart right back in. EDIT: Jesse Michaels is apparently working on new music with Classics of Love. So... Let's not get too excited. Except about new Classics of Love because that's something to get excited about!
Did we discuss the possibility of The Anniversary performing? Just realized they’re playing the Vagrant 26 Fest here in OC in May. Maybe they have a few other shows lined up?
They were one of the few shows I went to in 2020, and I really enjoyed them. I hadn't listened to them prior (I went because my friends band was opening and this was the biggest show they were playing at the time) but they ruled.
I'd imagine the Anniversary and Moneen both have a decent shot at popping up on other festivals this year. I'd say Hot Rod Circuit too, but they're active enough that them playing a single show or two doesn't mean much. The Get Up Kids might be in play too, given that they're touring a bit this year (and were ready enough to hop on those Jawbreaker shows). TBH, I'm kind of surprised none of them were on Furnace Fest.
