ive been hoping for tsunami bomb forever, but i wouldnt be surprised if they pull out of this as the bass player had a stroke last week. sept (for riot) & oct (for fest) is still a ways a way, but i dont see him playing shows by then, but also i have zero clue how fast recovery can be., time will tell, and speedy recovery to him!
Oh shit- did not know that. Glad to see he seems to be recovering and in good spirits, but yeah, absolutely hope he gets to take the time he needs to recuperate.
Listening to the new Jack White...I feel even more strongly he's a very possible third headliner. I am well aware of his show here (it's tonight I believe) but that's still five months pre festival. Plus he can totally change up his tour set and his festival set which would make coming back for Riot more interesting/plausible. Also, while he did headline Lollapalooza a few years ago, he's not a super pricey get I assume. I feel like he's probably around the same price tag as The National (going off of the venues they play/popularity), who Riot has gotten in the past. Plus obviously the Raconteurs having played before helps.,
could be nothing but FIDLAR, who have been inactive for a few years posted an IG story of audio of them practicing. would absolutely love to see them again.
Just based on that Fest lineup, the mental image of City of Caterpillar playing Riot Fest is hilarious in my mind.
Tortoise is out; playing Chicago in October Laura Stevenson & Adult Mom are probably out with a Chicago set.. would still love to see Laura make an appearance if Death Rosenstock play Slighty Stoopid don't have a Chicago date on their summer tour..
Would be sick to have a stage that had their tour lineup and that Atmosphere/Iration tour. No Chicago date there either
don't forget 311, although if all 4 of those bands play.. I think it'll be spread out like in 2015 since you can mix in a lot of those bands with other hip hop or ska groups
Do any other spots on the Internet have conversations about the intricacies of the stage curation at Riot? It's legit so interesting to me. And I feel like this is really the only spot I ever see it come up with any regularity. I know people have talked about how Riot's line-ups over the years kinda look like works of art with how well it's curated but... I find the schedule to be just as interesting to nerd out on. Especially when you're dealing with artists who can fit in with a few different genres.
There’s a thread that discusses Riot each year on Inforoo.com (Bonnaroo forum) but it’s not as active as this forum. This is by far the best discussion forum I’ve found for Riot Fest.
I'm going to the Market Hotel show but this would be kind of awesome haha He's not a genius or anything but he writes good music.
hard agree! ive frequently wished i was talented with graphic design because once the schedule comes out ive always thought itd be cool to design a run of posters for each stage as if each stage was its own bill, which is one of the ways i personally breakdown the landscape
I mean I'd rather they just bring back the second small stage, but was thinking Riot maybe adds an acoustic stage, with already booked artists, etc. near the small stage with 30 minute sets while the small stage sets up between bands
accoustic, comedy, or wrestling could all be viable options as entertainment between setups over in that small stage area
They've had wrestling several years.. comedy is a good idea except I always heard it was a fucking mess at Bonnaroo to where they eventually stopped doing it.. like I'm thinking a revival like tent with a small stage set again, I'd rather them bring back the second stage especially since SOOO many smaller acts that are fairly cheap to book are touring with the world opening up, but was just throwing the idea out there
It wasn't so much a mess, it's just the venue only held maybe 3,000 people? There'd be 80K people at Roo and they all want to see the big comedy acts. It originally was just a stand-by line, so you had to give up probably 2hrs of your day to be guaranteed a spot. In later years they did a reservation system where you showed up at the beginning of the day and you could request what show you wanted to see. This went MUCH better, but people still complained because they'd show up 20mins before a show and not realize they couldn't get it.
No Trigger signed to Red Scare and has a new album dropping. Riot premiering the new video/song. I would imagine they're a lock
