Damn, I guess I have no idea how big GVF is. Would love Crowded House in the undercard or Alanis as a headliner (I know, probably not a great fit, but still.) Not much else on there for me at least.
Greta would be a sick Sunday headliner bc then I could likely leave early, assuming there wasn’t something I wanted to see closing another stage.
Question, I didn't go last year - what did people think of the new stage layout? Good? Bad? Better? Worse?
I loved it, the only downside being staring into directly into the sun for a couple sets on the second main stage (but I could also just bring sunglasses and it would probably be fine).
I am partial to the old layout but I do think it helped spread the main stage crowds out better. I was overall good with it.
My feelings too. As a first-timer I was very impressed with the walkability. Separately, I think I’m in the minority as someone who likes the vendor/food spacing to be a little more incorporated around the whole space, but the tradeoff of having them off to the edges was very balanced imo.
There were a few years where they had the food trucks on the west side of the park by the entrance. I can definitely see the reasoning for keeping the near the main food vendor area, but it was definitely nice to have some options over there. The water lines have moved really fast in recent years, but I still think they need a second water station somewhere.
Fucking fantastic. A total game-changer. I thought I was gonna hate it when I first saw it. I thought the barricades down the middle of the main stages would ruin the pit experience and I thought the flooring covering the soccer fields would become a slipping hazard as soon as people started spilling drinks on it. it turns out the flooring was fine- a little slippery and a little loud but not as unsafe as I had thought. and the extra room/barricades at the main stages actually made it infinitely easier to get close. For both RTJ and Slipknot, I arrived just a few minutes before their set started, and was in the pit for both. while some people surely will stage camp all day for MCR/ The Misfits, if they keep the same layout as last year, it won’t even be necessary.
I really enjoyed the new layout. The two main stages facing one another was real nice if you wanted to see two artists back-to-back. The distance between Radical/Rise is more than it had been previously, but it worked just fine once you got the hang of it. The real key is that there were no major bottlenecks anywhere so once you got a sense of how long it took to get to Point A from Point B you just had to plan accordingly. My only critique of the layout is a total first world problem thing, and that's the positioning of the Deluxe VIP viewing areas. Having those on the opposite sides for Radical/Rise and Riot would have helped flow even more (and prevented people from having to cut through thick crowds to get to them).
Greta Van Fleet above St. Vincent is insane to me. Man, I hate Greta Van Fleet. I will be so disappointed if they play RF. I liked the main stages facing each other. Was not a fan of the plastic flooring over the soccer field at all.
Bauhaus add lots more North American dates to 2022 tour Rules out Bauhaus as the third headliner but they could go on right before the Misfits?
Honestly, having them go on before the Misfits would be pretty awesome/perfect as far as aesthetic/vibe is concerned. And adding Riot Fest on the 17th would line-up with the pattern of three shows/day off that they have going on with that run of dates.
Yeah that shit is a lock. You don’t announce a full reunion run without a Chicago date but in our area that weekend.
bauhaus into misfits is insane!! i think they deserve to close a stage so that would be one of the few arguments for the pre-2021 layout: having the 2 stages next to each other allowed for those 2 stage to be crafted together, like the classic ministry-new order-NIN and a few others that have happened.
Music Midtown still has to drop their lineup.. it's usually middle of May when they release it (and it takes place the Saturday & Sunday of Riot).. their folk seem to think GVF is playing, which would have to be on the Sunday... so IF they do play Riot, the only other day is Friday and they'll likely be opposite MCR.. which is whatever Without having a clue who the third headliner is, it's almost impossible to figure out lol
It’s truly been a blast speculating the third headliner. Now that bauhaus is more than likely taken for Saturday the game has only gotten more fun.
Drive by Truckers would be an awesome addition. Would love it they squeezed in a RF set before or after their KY date.
