Great list Andrew! I would add Vial. They are punk band from Minneapolis with influences like Bikini Kill, I really like them and last year Riot included them in a playlist, so Im crossing my fingers for them to play. Also, I saw VeinFM this week opening for Touché Amoré (which they could be a nice addition to the line-up) and they were sicknasty. One of the heaviest sets I ever seen, and was wondering how would their set would be at Riot.
I think most of this bands are in Riot radar actually, a few of the "not local" list have played Riot before and some others have played Riot promoted shows
Vein playing the small corner stage would be great. Adding the turntables and electronics to their live sound has really made their live sound feel bigger while also still being very heavy. I’m biased bc I have seen them play a big stage opening for Have Heart and know they work in that outdoor setting, but I would really love to see them play Riot now that they have some excitement around them outside of hardcore.
I could go on and on about Chicago locals and other small bands that I want to see on the Rebel stage. The biggest bummer of reducing the number of stages a few years ago is that fewer of those bands get a shot to play.
Yeah, I really miss having two smaller stages side-by-side! It meant more bands overall on the lesser known tip which is never a bad thing at a festival like Riot.
Speaking of Chicago bands, you play in Pelafina, right? I remember seeing you guys opening for Spitafield and I think you would be a great fit for Riot Fest
Yep, and thanks! I also think we'd be a great fit for Riot Fest. Hoping it's in the cards someday, especially once we get back to releasing music more regularly.
Ratatat opened for Lupe Fiasco at my school once over a decade ago and half the crowd left after them hahahahah
McLusky is out, playing Chicago in December and on the west coast during Riot edit: I misspoke about them not being on Riot's radar, but like andy said if they added the second small stage back there would be more opportunities to book up and coming bands I'm just gonna stick to announcing bands either possibly in or definitely out lol
They still definitely keep their ears to the ground and would know about all of those bands. They’re the type of bands that riot would book throughout the year if their tours came through Chicago. Plus, a lot of them are probably one album away from becoming bigger than they currently are, so I’m sure riot fest follows their careers in hopes that they can book some bands for cheap just as they start blowing up.
Yeah the bands I listed all are potential just because they released new music in 2020/last year/this year and have either played the festival before or would make sense in the festival. We’ll see if any on my list actually make it on the poster though!
Someone wants free tickets for Kevine Devine, pronoun and Kayleigh Goldsworthy on April 13th? I got free tickets from Do312, but Im waiting on approval for a photo pass for Jawbreaker the same day.
Arlo Parks is playing Thalia Hall on Sunday. If I'm not big into either headliner closing that night, I might do that show.
I know we've all speculated all 3 as likely but someone in the tour thread just posted a 311 show with Eve 6 & Lit opening in Omaha on Sep 9
I was gonna say maybe they'll start late to accommodate festivalgoers like Japanese Breakfast last year, but it occurs to me that was on Thursday. Regardless, this is pretty intriguing. She hits NYC on my 30th birthday but it's also a weekday.
I saw Arlo Parks opening for Clairo and she was amazing! Bummed she is playing in Chicago again during Riot weekend
Considering that they don't have any midwest our northeast dates as part of the spring run, I could see a late summer/early fall run including this show and Riot Fest. Along with MA, NY, PA, etc. Could also just be a one-off considering its a hometown show. But they're still road dogs and missing the northeast and the bulk of the midwest is odd for them. And Eve 6 is just down for whatever, I'm sure.
