Almost definitely Chicago (maybe getting announced after Nnamdi's Metro show next week?) and I'd assume that means Jeff (and Nnamdi and Catbite) are likely out for Riot.
Yeah, kinda feels like Chicago based on the dates. Bummer that both Jeff and Catbite are probably out.
Charly Bliss fit perfect with the Riot vibe, I'm surprised they've never been booked before. Also I just cannot see GVF being booked for this. IMO all signs point to Bauhaus being the third headliner, OR Paramore with Bauhaus being the Rise closer.
I might be the only one here who would be more excited for Bauhaus over Misfits or MCR... I'd love for them to be a headliner.
Yeah, they would! I am honestly surprised they haven't played it before. Why not? They're a standard-ass rock band. I would much prefer they not be booked but looking at their tour dates... It feels likely. They now have dates in the midwest just before with a run of dates starting on the 20th. I'd really love for them to not be on there. But it feels likely. Not as a headliner but top of the second line of whatever day they wind up on. Though I definitely feel like we're getting a combo of Bauhaus / Paramore (or 311) as #3 for Sunday.
Wet Leg are out too, that’s probably it in terms of whose been released so far for Lolla that could have played Riot.
Even though IDLES are out, I still think they could capitalize on the post punk boom that’s going on. Shame, Iceage, Squid, Fontaines D.C., black midi, Deeper, Nation of Language, Pottery, Stuck, etc.
I was considering it, but doors at midnight and having to wake up at 6am tomorrow for work... Im not young anymore
No Chicago date for sad summer which ends in august but I wonder if most of the bands playing sad summer are on riot fest outside of state champs who played riot fest last year
The tour skipped Chicago last year and there were no crossovers, I think State Champs played Sad Summer in 2019 and not 2021
There was originally a Chicago date last year or back in 2020 when it was originally announced but one of the bands ended up on lolla which is why Chicago prolly got skipped when they put out the new dates. And I was taking about state champs at riot fest last year
I could see like 1 or 2 bands from Summer Sad playing Riot, 3 or 4 of the bands played Riot recently although that means nothing Metallica playing Lolla, and Greta is opening some dates with Metallica like 2 weeks after Lolla.. kind of leans me towards them playing there over Riot.. I could totally be wrong, but it makes sense
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster just got announced for Furnace Fest, would LOVE to see them at Riot.
We pretty much know there is always going to be a 2010-present poppunk stage at least one day which I’m grateful for as it’s a stage I know I can not factor into my day. I decided long ago to not even attempt getting into that scene as it would just be adding conflict to my already loaded days, and as someone on the old side of 35, modern pop punk/ scene bands have just never hit my ear right
That was definitely the case last year. The Rise Stage on Saturday (Mayday Parade, Bayside, State Champs, FYS, etc). Prior years didn't really have one... But there's definitely potential for it. I'd assume Mayday Parade and State Champs are both out because they played last year. But I could see Neck Deep, Hot Mulligan, Against the Current, and/or the Summer Set being in the mix somewhere.
maybe my perception of who gets lumped together is off because i dont know the intricate differences in what some of these bands bring to the table since i dont listen to any of them, but when i go back and look at the schedules my auto skips were: 2021 - saturday rise, sunday they were split between rise and radical 2019 - was spread out more than i remember, fair enough 2018 - sunday radical - minus superchunk and bad religion 2017 - friday radical, most of saturday rise, half of sunday radical 2016 - friday rise (minus glassjaw)
I think it depends on who they wind up booking. 2021 and 2017 definitley had full stages dedicated to that "genre." For me, it's any of the Tumblr-core, easycore or whatever bands. And I think it's fair to lump TBS, NFG, Bayside, or whoever in there too considering the amount of crossover in fanbase. You kinda need an anchor band to have a stage dedicated to it, which you won't always have. But to say Riot doesn't usually book those bands is nuts. There's at least 3-4 every year.
