I think they are skipping cities they played on their November tour, but maybe! I'll be down for them to play Riot.

I checked, the only city they are repeating is Atlanta, for Innings Festival

Yeah, I'd assume Lolla for them. Maybe Riot after the buzz is just starting to die down. That's kinda the trajectory artists like that tend to take. Riot either gets them just before the buzz starts or as it's starting to die down a bit.

They would be a pretty solid addition to the line-up and could see them even working well with the Misfits earlier in the day. But like folks said above, could just be "batting clean-up" on their earlier tour.

  3. Wolf Alice didn't quite land with me the way I expected.
Any short lists of songs for trying again?

My Top 5 songs would be (in no particular order):
    -Smile
    -Bros
    -Play The Greatest Hits
    -You're a Germ
    -Beautifully Unconventional

    Don't Delete The Kisses.
Not only my favorite Wolf Alice song, but probably one of my favorite songs in the last 5 years.

I'd also say check out Your Loves Whore, Bros, Lipstick on the Glass and How Can I Make It OK

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever don't have a Chicago date on their next tour, but they have a HUGE gap around Lolla

Whatever the full lineup ends up being, they need to do a better job in terms of representation (women, LGBTQ+, etc.)
That's one reason why I would totally support Avril being on the lineup, and don't really care for arguing whether she's truly punk or not. It would just add to better representation with women. I was just listening to a podcast with Julia from Ratboys (who played last year) and she brought up how the first band with a woman in the lineup from last year was Best Coast like 20 spots down on the lineup which is...not great. A lot of the mocks I am seeing are pretty lacking in this respect, which is understandable because the festival is always lacking, but it's still disappointing. The comment is about an hour in.

I posted this on the Riot Fest 2021 thread when the line-up dropped in May and it indeed lacked a lot of women representation. In contrast I would say Pitchfork festival have a good ratio of women fronted acts in their line-up, even having just female headliners last year.

On the other hand, it was a pretty neat idea when Riot had only women fronted bands on the mainstage back in 2019! I would say Riot cares in some sort of way for it.

It’s definitely a fine line to walk when booking a major event like this. Obviously there’s sexism/racism in the music industry as well as in some segment of the rock/punk fan base. So there ends up being fewer poc/female fronted bands that end up getting big enough to be a notable draw at festivals like this.

so from riot Fest’s perspective, if you are unable to book many of those acts, or just had several of them the previous year, you still need to sell tickets so you’re going to fill those spots on the lineup with white male fronted bands of similar popularity.

then when people say you should have done more to make the festival diverse, you get frustrated because in your mind, you tried to do that but also still have to put together a bill that moves tickets.

not saying Riot Fest is blameless, but I understand how the nature of the industry might make it hard for them to always act on their intentions.

imo, at some point if you’re as big as Riot fest, you need to use your platform to try to elevate underrepresented groups. Even if that means booking a dozen lesser known female and poc acts at the bottom of the bill, you still put them on your stage in front of your crowd and then you bring them back higher up on the bill a few years later.

and whenever it’s possible to get the bigger acts that represent those groups, you make a priority to do that as well.

Forgive my geographical ignorance. I'm not from anywhere near Chicago. But, Dance Gavin Dance announced a tour that goes through Milwaukee, WI. I know the time frame is outside of 90 days of RF but is the distance? (This is for future reference).

    For the most part No

Also, I think Dance Gavin Dance are mostly playing cities they skipped on their last tour

Milwaukee is just about 90 miles from Chicago. Typically, it's not really a factor for radius clauses at most festivals from my observation. Just one example off the top of my head, the Killers played a show in Milwaukee like 2 days before they headlined Lolla.

I think it'd only be a factor for a really big reunion or exclusive band type of thing.

I figured that’s what they were doing based on the other stops. I was more using this as an example. Part of the curiosity was because in 2019 when Slayer claimed it as their last Chicago and Milwaukee performance.

Gotcha, Slayer was a rare exception but I know last year Fishbone played Summerfest & Riot the same weekend.. there's been plenty of other cases to conclude that it's generally not an issue, even though technically/mathematically.. it's within the 90 radius (but I think there's a lot of wiggle room with Riot compared to a Live Nation or Goldenvoice promoted festival)

ALSO, tour news.. my only actual contribution to this thread

I saw someone in a mock mention Bone Thugs, but they are playing Summer Camp... which probably means they are out

Skip Marley is skipping (*horrible choice of words) Chicago on his first headlining tour, and makes sense for Riot esp if he isn't on Lolla (which has to be announced relatively soon like in by the end of the month I would think??)

I'd imagine he would wind up on Riot over Lolla. I could see him being an early evening set on a reggae and hip-hop leaning stage. Not sure who else might be in the mix for next year, but Cypress Hill and Long Beach Dub Allstars immediately come to mind as possibilities. I know LBDA is doing a few festivals this year too.

Realistically this won't happen. But Bad Operation would be a cool opener on a stage like that.

Check Section H8’s post on Twitter. Apparently Jesse Michaels and Tim Armstrong played Sound System together at a small show in LA last night. Might be nothing, might be practice and press leading up to an Op Ivy reunion

I don't think it was "practice" or anything for "press." That was an extremely small charity gig with Tim using the Bivona brothers as his backing band; they probably just thought it would be cool. As per Jesse's comments on Instagram following the public's reaction to that Hard Times podcast? There hasn't been anything planned, etc.

That being said? Depending on how that felt, I could see something like this opening more talks. And it may have been a feeler more than anything.

I'm guessing we see a Riot Fest reunion in 2023 with a large club tour to follow a la Jawbreaker.

Dear god that would be a bloodbath. They would have to put them on the small stage while all the other stages’ headliners were playing so the 12 people at riot fest for them could just beat the ever living shit out of each other without any collateral damage

Haha probably true. That’s the thing though is that they would appeal to a lot of the older punk crowd bc of the old school oi in their sound and some of the younger attendees are aware of them through hardcore being bigger right now. And then people that are into social media would know of them bc of their big LA show and would be curious. They would get a good turnout and depending on the slot could ultimately win over people through their sound and or live show.
