I feel like the sets for that Vegas fest are going to have to be so short that there are going to be a lot of people complaining when they see a schedule. 20 bands per stage plus set up and tear down is going to mean a lot of very short sets.
Hey I know twitter guy is playing it up a bit right now, but thats what I mean about this festival stealing some thunder (with a festival that's a month after riot but lineup already here). I'm gonna cool off and see what both have to offer before making a choice....but thats again my point..im now deciding between 2 choices instead of just riot fest. As a "punk" guy, riot fest definitely has the potential to be more ri what i want but .... 1 day festival is certainly easier? And avril in a relative, GA/semi mosh atmosphere is extremely intriguing. Riot def better get poppy
This is entirely in line with the Riot Fest Twitter Guy's shtick, and I seriously doubt Riot Fest gives two shits about the other fest. There's only potential for 25% or so of the lineup to overlap, and both festivals cater to different audiences.
festival owl posted this mock schedule as a way of showing what this new fest may look like.. trying to cram this much in one day does not sound fun to me. no time to hit pause and relax (unless theres rare moment there would be 3 bands playing that i dont care about, but thats only an 'if'..). id be looking at the schedule figuring out when and where i need to move next more than looking at the band
I understand this is just a totally fake mock up, but geez, anything less than 30 for some of these bands is just such a bummer. I'm sitting this one out and maybe they will put it on Youtube or something. That being said, this puts a few must-see bands on the radar for Riot.
This doesn't look quite as bad until you start getting toward end of day. But those 20-30 minute sets earlier in the day are such a bummer. Haha. I'd also assume the set times might be a bit more staggered than they're mapping out. If they have MCR, Paramore, and ADTR all on at literally the same time people will riot. Hah. I could see one stage having more 20-25 minute sets earlier in the day with another having slightly longer sets or something to make that happen. Also guessing whoever closes that one stage will only get 60 minutes (ADTR) which would help with that too.
How are people feeling about the potential for Paramore to be headliner #3? It would fit well with that they currently have in that there would be a bit of overlap and diversify it at the same time. And for me, the fact that they've been inactive for a hot minute would be enough to push them up into that rare air (that they were already super close to, anyway). It's kinda telling to me that Paramore's name doesn't have "exclusive" or anything else tied to it.
That would be perfect for me, and I think they deserve it. The last few years seem to have been good to them in terms of public opinion, and it would round out that top 3 really nicely. They're also due for Lolla at some point, but I could see it going either way.
I’ve only recently come around on Paramore after being content to let them hang out in my periphery since I was a kid, so I’d be very happy to see them get a coveted slot. It could be an age-based bias but I think they have more cache and draw than they often get credit for.
Lolla would make sense too. Arguably, it might make more sense for them at this point over Riot Fest in terms of where they are at (essentially staging a "comeback"). It would get more eyes on them - and people who might not be aware they were coming back, y'know? That being said, a headlining slot at Riot Fest could probably be used to get better set times at Lolla or whatever next year. (That is, if my understanding of how it all works in that world isn't way off. Hah!)
I feel like both paramore and Avril could either end up on this or lolla this year edit. Both would be prolly be headliners at riot but not lolla well at least no paramore. I feel like they could be subs to ever closed bud light. Avril could headline either main stage at lolla imo but prolly more so bud light
not doubting their popularity at all but have they, or their legend, grown since 2017? (when they were 2nd billed on their day behind the jawbreaker reunion) i almost wouldnt want riot to have them as 3rd this year since it would then look more like a copy of the WWWY fest and rio thrives more when they can set themselves apart. i havent taken the time to look but are there any overlaps between WWWY and any other fest MRC is currently on? may give clues to who their tour openers could be, not that its an exact science, as openers can weave in and out of some shows with who they are touring with
