Does anyone know if an overhead picture of the crowd for MCR exists? I want to visualize how crowded it actually was.
Idk why but this year has hit me like a bus compared to other years. Maybe it’s because I’m older now but I haven’t even been drinking and I’m exhausted. Tbh I haven’t gone before 2pm most days either and it’s still so much.
Re: Weather I know the forecast has looked concerning but i’m not that worried overall based on the latest observations. Seems like mostly isolated activity to me throughout the day. The heavier storms and severe weather currently look like they’ll miss the city to the southwest and also occur much later - after 8-9pm. Will update if things change.
Ditched today as per my previous plan due to a wild work travel schedule the past couple weeks, and went to rooftop pool at the Robie with my gf lol. Yesterday redeemed the weekend for me after Friday’s insanity. I think I’ll def have to restrict to 1 day passes going forward, buying a 3-day was humbling, particularly at the increased costs
Going later today. Sitting in our hotel watching football and taking it easy. Will probably go for a few sets today, check out the shops, and bounce. Overall great weekend and I'm so happy to get to do this every year coming from Pennsylvania. Have they shown next year's dates/location anywhere yet? Can't remember when they do it but I think they usually have it on a screen at the festival on the last day at the latest? Maybe I'm misremembering.
Not yet but I have a suspicion they won’t announce the location this early. I think moving next year is still very much a possibility.
In my 7 years I’ve never gone on a ride, but I saw there was zero line and hopped on a Ferris wheel for the 2nd & 3rd songs by mom. Jeans. 10/10 worth the 4 dollars.
Exactly my thoughts. I could have sworn last year they had Douglass Park under the dates sometime during the fest. Could be wrong though! Very curious to see what the future holds for Riot. Heading over there for day 3 soon! :)
Saw them at pitchfork, missed them today. They’re so much fun. Agreed. This year seems like it could be the end. Did anything ever come of the huge thing Riot Mike was teasing?
There was a lady in line this morning asking everyone to sign postcards to get them to move the festival to another park. She got real nasty with me when I politely declined. So I said where were you the last 6 years or so it's been here and she huffed at me and walked off.
We got in line early and were near the front. They were getting nasty early even when folks were pretty nice about saying no.
I don’t remember what it was like in ‘13 and ‘14 at Humboldt but the resistance has been getting steadily more visible every year here. I think this is the first time I’ve seen “GTFO Riot Fest” graffiti on the fences.
Have fun today everyone and stay safe with the weather. I'm skipping tonight, the only band I really want to see is TAI and I can live without seeing them
That graffiti was there last year, too. There wasn’t anything external that I recall from Humboldt between 2012 and 2014. It all came after 2014. Which, it should be noted, they were encouraged to go that big for that year by the aldercreature.
She claimed kids were missing out in soccer practices for 2 weeks because of the festival but then when I mentioned the entire giant field I walked by in the way to the Kedzie station she just made a face and said "Yeah thats a real concession they made" and stormed off.
Just a heads up the riots/riot stages have security handing out water to everyone. no one is taking it.
