Riot Fest 2022 (September 16-18, Chicago IL) Festival • Page 22

  1. Yeah I don't have any professional experience but my guess is that these tiers have loosey-goosey definitions. Tampa and Miami are cities of under 500k people and Houston has lots of sprawl for its 2mil+ people, so maybe it would be fair to call them all B- or cusp-markets. But who knows.

I was more referring to the rest of the tour which is seems pretty much smaller markets. I feel like that part of the comment shouldn’t have been the main focus and it was nitpicked a little here but it’s all good. I would love to see Jimmy and Dashboard there.

Yeah like I said, I don't think there's a standard for where a market lands in these tiers.

In the context of this tour, I think if the only choices are to call it "A" or "B/C" I'd call it the latter. Does three top-20s and a bunch of mids count as an A-market tour because of the regional limitations? idk, I think at that point in the conversation it's pretty obviously not standardized.

Keep in mind that there's plenty of B and C markets that are contained within the larger metro areas.

I haven't been paying too much attention to tour dates and the such for figuring out who may be booked for RF. I've been underwhelmed by festival lineups up to this point.

Saw someone mention Chvrches earlier. Fairly certain they'll be at Lolla. Same with Phoebe. Not that Phoebe would be a RF act at this point, either...

Still stand by that St Vincent would be a great add for RF. We're also going to get The National touring this year and may still be obligated to Pitchfork after 2020 or could be open for a RF date.

    Things have changed.

Dashboard has an A-market summer tour. I assume Jimmy does as well.

Shame Cleveland date moved to September 3 so assuming the whole tour postpone is coming

Every Time I Die just broke up. I remembered they were set to play Riot and an aftershow in 2020, and was hoping for them to be on for 2022

Im bummed. I was thinking of seeing them at the Violent Gentleman's party in November but decided to pass. Oh well. At least I’ve got to see them before

I doubt she'd want to slum it at Riot Fest. She's going back to "pop-punk" with her new record, but she already has that aesthetic baked into her DNA. I'd imagine she'll do a headliner this summer with a Travis Barker-produced act opening, play Lollapalooza, then do the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball circuit.

She's a bona fide pop act and I really doubt she'd want to take a step down and play rock-focused festivals. She wouldn't change any minds there, but she would have a shot at a revival at Lolla, etc.

Depends on what part of the summer you're talking. Jimmy Eat World is in Europe throughout June and early July.

So bummed! They were a highlight the last time I saw them at Riot and was really hoping to see them come back sometime soon!

But this all kinda feels like the sort of thing that could see them getting back together in another few years... Assuming everyone can simmer, get the help they need, etc.

Riot Fest already got the big reunion. There was a 0% chance they'd do it again.

They already did it again after that so I think they are still in play for the future

Yeah I think they have a good relationship with the festival (and like I said a while ago about Op Ivy, it’s easily the biggest event that’s closely aligned to their fan base).

i think they know they’re never getting headliner money from the fest again but as long as they stay around I’d lump them in with Decencents, NOFX, and Bad Religion as the relatively bigger punk bands that you can expect to return to the fest every 2 to 4 years.

I'd imagine they'll play it again but take a few years off. I wasn't there when they played that second time but I can imagine that the crowd reaction wasn't quite so intense. It seems like they're playing it super safe with the reunion thing, given the cities that they're playing - and the direct support they're using. Those line-ups are wild!

Also nuts to see the Linda Lindas billed so high. I kinda hope they can keep up some sort of momentum, despite feeling a bit bummed that they're direct support over Worriers.

April dates don’t rule bands out for riot fest. It’s like anything After June usually does

Really wish Chicago had the Denver support

I agree but I think it hurts riot Fest’s chances that they’re playing 2 Chicago dates, not just 1.

A tour date in April doesn't hurt the chances of a regularly touring band. But I think, for some of these older legacy acts that barely ever tour... I wouldn't expect them to do hit the same city twice in a given year.

Obviously, it doesn't rule them out completely. But it decreases the odds substantially. Nevermind the fact that album plays are typically "exclusives" for that particular city.

This could change if they announce an album and other dates later in the year. But it would probably be a "regular" set rather than an album play, in that case.

Yeah, I wish LA had support similar to Denver or Chicago. But regardless, super cool that The Linda Lindas are playing!

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

I'd put Jawbreaker in the potential last minute replacement for a subheadliner band category for this year if they end up on the lineup. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they were on the card in 2023.

That When We Were Young festival puts a few bands in play for Riot Fest. On the bigger end, I think it's pretty likely we'll see Paramore come back (maybe as headliner #3). Could also see All-American Rejects back in the mix since they missed 2021. Anberlin and Saosin would be cool gets too.

Obviously, there's a bunch of other bands that might wind up playing but... Those are the most notable ones from a "reunion"/"rare get" perspective, I think.

Yea crazy lineup, also shows Avril is down for slumming it in the punk fests. This has to be the year for afi & the used. Would glass jaw again, also gimmie horrorpops, Linda Lindas, kittie, red jumpsuit, & Jimmy eat world
