Yeah, this is going on the 10th year that he’s been doing Riot Fest? At this point, I think with his and Riot’s relationship, be sort of has the upper hand when it comes to this sort of thing. At this point, I think he can just tell them “alright, I want this time” and Riot will do it, haha Same goes for GWAR too
Well, I think it's a combination of things. You can throw AWK on at any time and he's going to draw people. It's probably just a cooler environment to close out that stage versus like, 2pm on the main stage. With GWAR, they seem to pair them up on the bigger stage when it might make sense/if they have friends playing. Like, this year with the Murphys/Rancid. Or in 2019 with all the other metal bands.
on the topic of the main stays having some sway - since the bailed out riot (with rtj and weezer) in 18 it seems like TBS have had closing stage spots as a thank you, but 10 bucks says they pulls some strings and gets to sub for (or close the next door stage) for MCR.
Seeing Andrew WK close out the Rebel stage a couple years ago was one of my top 10 Riot sets ever, just pure chaos.
dang lots of bands from 2011 like Larry & His Flask, Menzingers, Strike Anywhere, Suicide Machines, Leftover Crack (I'd prefer Choking Victim), Flatfoot 56 are long overdue to return to Riot sooner or later.. I think Social D has a new record coming out this year, so they may actually be the most likely (not counting the Descendents who basically play every other Riot) also I don't know if AWK & Marky are still friends, but I'd love to see AWK with the Blitzkrieg live.. would be an amazing afternoon treat on the Saturday before Misfits
I don't even think they'd need to pull any strings. It just makes perfect sense from a programming perspective to have them back to back (either on the same stage or the other one).
I could see the main stage Friday will be something like The Used --> Taking Back Sunday --> AFI ? ---> MCR
Good call on AFI. They make a lot of sense there. Put Creeper first and switch The Used out for Thursday and that's probably where I'm hanging out all day.
I watched Andrew WK over Rise Against and Wu-Tang, and I'm still happy I did. I was able to sneak in a little Manchester Orchestra before too, which was great.
Menzingers returning this year and doing OTIP would make a lot of sense, I assume they’ll do that at Fest and a few more shows too
Small stage with Chubby and the Gang, The Chisel, Strike Anywhere, and Suicide Machines all on the same day and in a row is what we all need.
Brian Fallon cancelled some of his tour dates including Chicago. Wonder if he’ll be up for grabs for Riot
I don't think a January date would have been eliminated him anyway, but I'd love to see him at Riot (or anywhere else - haven't seen him since the Get Hurt tour).
Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard announced a B/C market tour this week. No Chicago date. I know it could just as easily mean nothing but they’re both definitely still in play.
Referencing tiers/sizes of potential tour stops. "A" markets would be big cities like NYC/Chicago/Philly, while B and C could run the gamut from like Richmond, VA to suburbs 30-40 minutes outside the A/B cities.
