Yellowcard was on The Challenge at one point too. The cast was split into two groups and had to destroy as much of a room as possible while the band played (I think it was Breathing?). I want to say it was on The Inferno

I believe Miles Apart was the theme song to The Inferno but my memory might be escaping me.

Edit: I checked Wikipedia, and that’s correct. Season aired in 2004.

    Incredible

Man, Riot Fest fucked up with their stage designations. They could have booked Yellowcard and Midtown on the same stage and had Christina P host it. Getting her there would have been easy until Bauhaus cancelled.

Looking at recent MCR set lists, and it's really kinda cool how much they're switching up the set list order every night. Probably gonna pull the trigger and see them here in MA next week ahead of the festival because of that.

Fat Mike said on Twitter that 2023 is going to be NOFX's final year as a band, so I think it's reasonable to expect they'll play next year again.

I'm honestly not sure what to make of that. It wasn't on Twitter but it was a response to a comment on Instagram from a person who was being kinda shitty ("You should be glad people still come to see you" is what they said). He could have just been fucking with 'em... Which is what I honestly think that was.

Would be a weird move to "announce it" in that way. And would be even weirder to call it a day when they're bigger than they've ever been and have the whole craft beer festival thing going. That's an easy gig.

EDIT: I may have spoken too soon. Mike went on to tell somebody that the last place they'd play was Los Angeles. That's almost too specific. Still feels like a weird time for them to call it a day but... Who knows.

Is it sad that this is what introduced me to them and made me a causal fan? I’d seen the name but it probably wasn’t interesting enough for me to check them out pre-MySpace. But I heard that theme song and was like, damn that’s catchy. It’s an earworm!

Not sad at all! Haha. Shit like this is how people get into a lot of stuff.

I just found it funny, in hindsight, to see them playing this song in this setting.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

That’s wild. Wonder why? They could seriously just make good money playing fests and stuff for the rest of their career. Hope everything is ok with them

EDIT: Damn thinking about this more is really bumming me out. I loved them when I was in my teens. It’ll be weird without them around

I kinda always figured they'd just keep at it. But I wonder if the years might be wearing on them in a way that'll impact the live show and they'd rather quit while they're still good live... Rather than limping toward the finish line.

It could also be one of those things where they don't "break-up" so much as just say "we'll still record and play shows; just won't do full tours anymore" or whatever.

Either way: One good thing that will come out of this? It'll open up space for younger bands to play higher-up on festival bills! I've felt this way for a while, but one of the reasons we haven't seen new headliners in that area is because many of the older bands are still active. Them quitting will also promote nostalgia, maybe lead to younger bands discovering them and starting playing a similar style, etc.

Skate-punk never got that because the bands kept plugging away, even in the years where things were relatively lean.

I discovered The Cool Kids & Sara Bareilles (several months before Love Song took off everywhere) because of this Rhapsody commercial in Fall 2007. No matter how you found good shit, you still found good shit

I wish The Cool Kids blew up as hard as she did, I loved "the new black version of the Beastie Boys"

100%! Cool Kids were awesome too, BTW. I really wish they got bigger.

This whole thing we're talking about comes up a lot on Damien from Fucked Up's podcast (Turned Out A Punk). He starts each interview asking the other person "how they got into punk." And the answer ranges from having a cool older sister who gave them a mix tape with a Poison Idea song... To like, seeing Alkaline Trio perform on the Hills.

And yeah, in hindsight, some of that stuff might be terrible (not the music, the way in which you found it). But it's nothing to be embarrassed about in terms of how you got there.

Speaking of weird places people find music: I was looking at recent Coolio set lists and it looks like he's been opening up a bunch of shows with his song from the Space Jam soundtrack ("Hit 'Em High"). That song unironically rules.

26 years since the Monstars hit the court with that as their background music & that moment unironically gives me chills lol. I'm really excited to see Coolio

Stealing my older sister's CDs & my high school best friend being obsessed with The OC & it's soundtrack is like 95% of influence of my music taste

Just watched some clips and it looks like he's still super fun live. I feel like that's going to be one of the sleeper fan favorite sets of the weekend.

I get the nostalgia factor and all that with him but... Man is it uncomfortable reading posts about people wanting to do an "ironic" mosh pit during "Gangsta's Paradise."

Not that I could find on the Internet in a lazy 2-minute search... So probably not?

can confirm Coolio live show slaps. just saw him on july 4th. his set was only a tight 20-25 mins so im curious to see if he adds more songs, or just lets each one breath a little more and some vamping/crowd work stuff

It's officially "check the weather every day to see how things will be during the festival despite knowing it'll probably change anyway" season!

Yeah, from the look of recent set lists it looks like he rips a quick 25-30 usually. And to be honest, with his catalog? That's probably what most crowds want anyway. So I'm'a just go ahead and call it efficiency. Hah.

I'd bank on his Riot set ending early.

Still deciding if I want to see Coolio or PVRIS. I'm trying to split sets as little as possible this year, and I'm seeing Jimmy the weekend before, so it wouldn't be the end of the world to miss 20 minutes.

I have two tickets I can’t use anymore (I’m still going no worries!) - would sell for like $150 each if anyone needs some! Can transfer right away

Seeing how many people are selling tickets makes me sad I panic bought a pass when passes "were getting low" 3 months ago. I've been had.

This is my time to shine!!! Weather apps are going to offer you no help at all from this range. They're all based on one single weather model simulation which at that range is like throwing darts at a board with a blindfold on. Last nights ensemble data goes out to about to about the start of Riot Fest. Pretty strong signal for above normal temperatures and no overly concerning precipitation signal. So far, all good!

You're telling me, I bought them minutes after they came out thinking there would be zero tickets left by now
