Just saw somebody suggest A.F.I. Would definitely be a smaller draw, but man would that make me happy! And it would be a decent replacement stylistically too. Real curious to see how they deal with this. They could shuffle a band or two around (e.g., Sunny Day could go there) and book a few smaller acts to replace too.
AFI is playing Chicago Nov. 15 and there's still tickets available, so I'm thinking they are doubtful
AFI before Misfits would be a dream for me. Speaking of Mike Patton, Mr Bungle have some show in South America at the end of the year. So maybe they can bring them for it
That would make sense! Could also explain a few other "touring but wide open that weekend and not on the line-up" instances over the years. I'm sure it happens, but we just aren't usually aware because bands don't cancel so often. Much as I don't care about seeing Tenacious D so much at this point... Would be cool to see that "theory" proven to be (potentially) accurate. Hah. Weirdly, I feel like Tenacious D/GWAR would cause conflict for a bunch of people. Haha. Ah, good point! I forgot they had a tour coming up... Fuck. They're out, I guess. Oh! For some reason, I thought Patton was out all year? In that case, I think Faith No More would be a perfectly reasonable replacement! (That would make sense given they dropped last year.)
I remember reading somewhere Mike Patton saying the future of FNM is uncertain, saying they might reschedule, they might not. As of now it seems Mike was focusing on recording the new Dead Cross album. And although those Mr Bungle shows are booked he might cancel them too, who knows.
Yeah he said in an interview that he hasn’t heard anything about the status of new FNM gigs, so I wouldn’t bet on them
I was hoping for Courtney Barnett but she has dates every day that weekend. Tenacious D would be AMAZING.
I wasn't really planning on seeing Bauhaus, but if Tenacious D is the replacement then I'd certainly see a few songs of theirs over The Story So Far.
off topic but just wanted to throw it out there - i highly recommend catching the NY state of mind tour if you have the chance, saw the first stop last night and even with them working out the kinks it was so great. they did it revolving door style which ive seen twice now and i love it, no breaks, keeps things moving. DJ scratch opened doing 20 to hype the crowd wu-tang did 30 mins nas did 20 mins ghostface and raekwon did 15 Busta Rhymes did 20 min Nas did another 20 Wutang closed it out with another 20 including a YDB doing ODB mini-set
Courtney Barnett was also just here a couple weeks ago, but one day they will definitely get her. Tenacious D seems like the perfect replacement due to their proximity to the festival although that would be 5 shows in a row for them, but they are in the area...
For me, the Pixies feel like the most logical replacement. They were slated to play last year, but backed out. Touring this year but they're wide open that weekend with no Chicago dates on the horizon. They also have a pretty similar fanbase and would fit in the time slot. Tenacious D isn't as direct a replacement but is about the same size and has pretty broad appeal. My one hesitation is that it would be 5 dates in a row on a travel day. MC5 didn't have a Chicago date on their reunion run and would have a similar "punk/whatever" reunion vibe. Would also work real well just before the Misfits. Weezer could work too, though I suspect they would want more than 60 minutes. Replaced Blink in 2018 but hasn't played since. Playing Firefly the weekend after so they'd have their shit ready. Arguably too big a replacement, but they'd probably be down? Depending on who they get they might also shake up some of the other band's time slots to accommodate additional time, etc. Curious to see how this all shakes out. EDIT: Imagine if they replaced Bauhaus with Avril Lavigne? That would be really dumb, but the Internet discourse would be totally worth it. Nothing funnier than an agitated ex-goth in their 50s with a Facebook account.

I would be down for Avril, and that way the stage would make more sense going from Jxdn-Yungblud-Avril. But dont think that will happen.
If they’re trying to appease some of the people who were super excited for Bauhaus i could see them booking New Order. Have no idea what their availability is in September but I’m guessing *most* Bauhaus fans would accept them as a substitute
Oh shit, I have tickets to the Cleveland-ish date but had no idea Busta was gonna be there too. I've caught Nas and Wu both at Riot, but Busta has been on my bucket list!
He played 2 sold out shows a Metro a few weeks ago, but I was thinking about him too after they mentioned New Order
