Yeah, Midtown was definitely a couple of eras before mine, but their music is fun, I'm excited to check them out
One of my all-time favorites! The 1-2 punch of Jimmy Eat World into them is pretty much making my Sunday, hah.
I'm not posting my tentative schedule bc it will jinx my Friday morning flight getting delayed... hint: if you want a decent paying job, I think the airlines are hiring
I am glad that Midtown is getting some love in this general pop punk moment. Of all the bands that ended up getting big and popular, most of them opened for Midtown at some point. Glad they are getting their due now.
Remember today that our flight home isn't actually until Tuesday night. So spent the evening booking reservations for restaurants and finding things to do on Monday/Tuesday. Can't believe it's almost here and really looking forward to visiting the Shedd Aquarium for the first time!
Yeah, I've heard nothing but great things about it. And I'm a bit of a zoo/aquarium nerd so I like to visit anything local when I travel. I really enjoy the Lincoln Park Zoo, though, so when I have limited time I always find myself wanting to go back there... We actually attempted the Shedd last year when we had an extended trip but weren't able to get reservations on the days/times we would have needed to make it work. So we did it well in advance this year!
They could totally make a promo video for the Shedd with Shed because they have an anaconda (sniper) in there, and some other reptiles too. Basically it’s the most punk aquarium there is
The Thursday Full Collapse after show is $90 on Stubhub... do yall think it will go up as we get closer or will I be able to find one cheaper? Haven't bought off Stubhub in a while and have never done so for an after show. not sure what to do. where else can I look for cheaper tickets?
They seem to have fixed this and they match, with the only error I can see still being the Zola Jesus/ Lunachicks 5 min overlap on Sunday
Yup! I saw this get updated the other day. The Zola Jesus/Lunachicks overlap is still bugging me. Haha. I'm assuming Lunachicks are meant to be listed as 3:35-4:10 which feels like a super short set. And I dunno. With that giant gap on the Riot Stage early on Sunday they could shift things around and give 'em 45 minutes or so. But I also wonder in scenarios like this if the reason that doesn't happen is that certain bands have it in their contract that they don't play first on their stage, won't play before a certain time, etc. I could easily see the Linda Lindas saying "we won't play first on our stage" or Jawbox saying they won't play before 2pm. That sort of thing.
That def makes sense. It seems so weird that nothing is really staggered on Sunday until like 3 pm, have there been instances like that in years past?
There's been a few, though this one is really glaring. Below are what I identified looking back at old schedules. 2014: On Sunday, Riot stage didn't start until 1:45 (Kurt Vile) while Roots had two bands on before that (Menzingers/Bouncing Souls). 2015: On Sunday, Roots didn't start until 2pm (Tarrus Riley). 2017: On Friday, the Radicals stage didn't start until 1:50 (Sleep On It) while all other stages started before 1pm. 2018: On Saturday, Rise didn't start until 2:30 (Mannequin Pussy). All other stages started before 2pm. Looking at the "size" of the holes in the schedule it all kinda looks like it's mostly a single band that dropped. Or them just trying to stick with the theming and having one less band on that stage because... That's what they got. Haha. But it's rare that the main-main stage starts so late. Legit feels like they were meant to have at least one (maybe two) other bands earlier in the day. I wonder if Mothica was supposed to be on that day but they had move them for some reason? Their set time would line-up and they would fit with the vibe of that stage.
i still like the theory that Since NIN has to take such a long trip from playing LA the night before they probably had to build in extra time to get all their stuff in and set up before anyone else can play. and i have never seen zola jesus or polica lieve so i dont know their set up and this is talking out my ass, but feels like they also picked bands who are pretty minimal and dont have a ton of bells and whistles
Mothica was meant to play Sunday according to her Instagram but on the schedule she is on Saturday. Probably she was meant to open the main stage but NIN requested more time to prepare their stage set up.
Definitely makes sense that they'd need more time to load-in. Whenever I think about shit like this, I have flashbacks to Montebello Rockfest in like, 2016 when Alice Cooper was meant to play. They delayed opening gates by like, 30 minutes because they were still setting his shit up... And they were still setting things up for another 90 minutes. So all the bands playing that stage had to get shuffled around to new stages, set times, etc. Obviously that won't happen here. But still... Haha. Man, the number of posts you've mined from their Instagram profile is wild. Haha. This actually makes perfect sense!
Oh, I know! What I mean is... You brought it here. Then you got the Riot Fest Reddit person to admit they were announcing something last week. And you were just now able to leverage the date she posted to say "Hey, they were probably the missing band!"
I've always been curious what goes in to planning for a festival like this from a bands perspective. Especially when it comes to bands that are planning a reunion. I'm assuming that Riot Fest itself takes care of some of the stuff for them, but I'd imagine that there is a ton of planning going on behind the scenes too. Travel, equipment, staff, practicing as a unit again, etc. I'm working on a totally unrelated project with my company that involves a team we haven't worked with in a while, and getting that together has been quite a process. I'm sure it's fun and all but for the bands that are reuniting, I'm sure that the next two weeks are when it starts to become "real".
